Hello~

1 semester Gen Chem w/lab
1 semester Biology w/lab
2 semesters Orgo w/ labs
2 semester Physics w/ lab
2 semesters math (calc, stats, the amount and type of math depends on the medical school)
Some English

The above courses are the prerequisite courses you must take for medical school. The cool thing about Michigan is that Chemistry and Biology are one semester courses, instead of the usual 2 at most other schools. Although, next year Biology will be 2 semesters.

Most students take a bunch of upper-level sciences susch as Genetics or Animal Physiology in their Junior or Senior year. A bunch of schools require Biochem as well. Research/Shadowing is a must as well.

You can major in anything you want.

This website should help you with everything you need to know about pre-med courses

I know a lot of people who came in planning on premed and ended up having to switch because there was some class they couldn't pass. Personally, I think it's best if you figure this out sooner as opposed to later. It's not a good situation if you wait until second semester sophomore year to find out you can't pass Orgo, and have to switch to something else.

MOst of those classes are hard. One of my pre med friends had to basically study all last semester to keep his GPA from dropping below a 3.3 range. Then again, he took basically every hard class he could find and is now almost done with his pre med stuff at end of freshmen year.
