OK.... so please help me out

So, I am very scared now after reading a few posts. I am an Out of Stater applicant, from PA. I thought I would have a chance, now i am very doubtful.

16 year old female ( as of now... b/day soon :)
Born in brazil, perm resident.. speak Portuguese fluently
SAT : 1980 (680 R, 680 W, 620 M)
Sat 2 660 Bio E, 620 Lit, 640 Math
97 gpa, 24 out of 480
won 1st place state medical terminology competition, 3rd place national competition.

I run xc and track, I volunteer at a equine assisted therapy place.
I do other stuff too ( u know he basics, clubs and such)I also knit hats for the hospital

I attended a summer med forum (NYLF)

Those are the basic facts, I wont put my whole resume on here:)

.. one more question, does it affect the decision, if put no or yes to financial aid, for exp, what if i put no for fin aid.

i would say you’re an average OOS candidate. many have your rank or better, many have better SAT scores.

on the topic of apply for financial aid or not–UVa is need blind, but I always find it hard to think that in a situation like this–2 equal applicants, 1 needing financial aid, 1 not needing it, 1 spot left, the one who doesn’t need financial aid will likely get the spot. but since UVa doesn’t have a set number of people they admit, that should never really happen!

I don’t mean to seem unkind but PA schools (as a general rule) don’t have the same rigor as many VA schools. The things that help you are being a URM, and the national competition. Since no AP’s are listed I can’t comment. The things that hamper you are low SAT’s, no listed AP IB’s, and being OOS.

Why do you feel UVa is a great fit for you? For someone who appears interested in Medicine I would stay keep your financial powder dry by staying instate until time for med school IMHO

I like Virginia, and I really like UVA, and it would be great if I could go there. Yes i took AP’s : Bio ,Lit ,Chem , and honors calc (not ap) But, the reason i did not take more was because I was in a program where we learned anatomy, med math, statistics, psychology, and med term. we also visited hospitals, this course took up half the school day! Does it help, that my gpa has risen significantly from year to year, freshman was not all that great, soph went up a lot, and junior even more?

i didn’t realize you were a URM. you’ll probably get in.
