Junior Year - tutored after school

i guess my life was pretty much dedicated to theatre... not much else outside it.

Nice list so far, maybe even too many safeties.

Are you willing to look at privates or just looking to stay in state due to financial issues?

prolixity:

UCLA: Reach
UCI: Match
UCSC: Safe Match

I dunno, my financial situation is kind of iffy. My brother will be attending UCI, and my mom takes care of my sister in NY by paying for rent, acting class tuition, etc. Next year we'll really be struggling, but with Stanford, we have tuition help. (1/2 of Stanford's tuition -> any school i attend, starting '07-'08 (not counting R&B)) It'll help, but my mom makes only just enough to get by. We'll see what happens.

I want to stay in-state becuase I don't think i can leave california and be away from my family.

I'm looking at a lot of private schools b/c I learn better in smaller environments. Plus, LACs have good social science/history programs

So what are your recommendations?

I don't know where you are getting your WGPA 4.037/3.762 numbers at the end of each year--do you want to explain those--because I'm getting completely different numbers-- also which classes count in the GPA and which ones don't--because I'm trying to figure out whether to add community service and choral or leave them out.

At least I end up close to your 3.6 to 3.7 U/W GPA numbers. Using those and the SAT I scores (actuals) and predicted SAT IIs of 600 and 730, I get the following:

UCLA--reach/no chance
UC Irvine--match
UCSC--safe match to match
Santa Clara--match
Univ of San Diego--safe match to match
Pacific--match
Pitzer--match
Scripps--reach
Claremont McKenna--reach/no chance
Loyola Marymount--safe match to match

and for a different choice--UCSB--match to slight reach

Best choice for you is probably UCSC. They have a yearly Shakespeare festival, a new Digital Media center where they are doing a lot of films normally done in LA, and the school is good in the arts in general. It's not far from your current home--and the cost is reasonable, especially since you live in California and you'll get 1/2 paid for. The only real expense is the room and board, since driving the hill between Los Gatos and Scotts Valley everyday may not be an option. If you don't mind the drive and the gas costs, then the school becomes really cheap--normal fees are about $6-7K each year and you'll only be paying half that--so this is a bargain for a school ranked #28 among public universities nationwide.

Looking at the other schools, Scripps is also good for the arts, but is very expensive and your chances of acceptance are less than 50% anyway. The other school I'd look at closely is UC Irvine. It ranks #10 among public universities--but I don't know anything about the arts programs there.

Good luck wherever you go.

Hey, thanks for your reply, it was really helpful

To clear some things up:

*the GPAs stated at the end of each year are weighted Fall/Spring semester GPAs.
*Community Service doesn't count as a class - it just shows I completed the required amount of hours before the due date. There's no actual GPA credit, but it still shows on my transcript
*Tri-Chorus and Intro are semester classes for partial credit. Regular classes count as 10 units, but Tri-Chorus has 1.5 credits, and Intro to College has 1
*I'm not going for a Theatre or Arts major at all - that's just a passionate hobby I have on the side. I'm hoping to be a History Major.

Thanks again!

Bump, please?

anyone else?

Scripps: possible (eye level)
Pitzer: possible (eye level)
CMC: reach
UCLA: reach
UCI: safety
Santa Clara: eye level
Loyola Marymount: safety

You have a good list. My STATs were similar to yours and I am heading to Scripps in the fall.
