OK, so we're slow here...

My S is finally submitting his app to Georgia Tech. I think he has a good chance of getting in, but I have a couple questions.

There seems to be nowhere on the application to note AP scores or being a National Merit Commended. What should he do with these, if anything.

Since he missed the deadline for the Presidential Scholarships, I’m hoping he wouldn’t have qualified anyways, BUT I wondered what people know about chances for other merit money. Is there much available other than these Prez. Scholarships? The website lists various scholarships, but I’m not sure if that represents a lot of $$ or not and how tied they are to financial need. I’m not too keen on paying upwards of $30K (out of state), especially when the in-state kids are going thru a lot more inexpensively AND there seem to be a lot of Hope and Presidential Scholarships. If there isn’t other merit money, maybe we should save our admission fee $$?

Its hard to say how much money is actually out there, they don't really say. Out of state students to get a good shot at a lot of it, although GT is known for giving a bit less each year. I'd say its worth applying to.

Even out of state tuition is much cheaper than most private schools.

gt06,

Thanks for the response. Can I ask what your major is? My son wants to do game development, I want him to get a good CS education as a foundation, GT seems to fit both.

The Hope scholarships are for in state students only they provide free tuition as long as you maintain a "B" average.

Gamom, That's what I meant. If my S gets admitted, he will be ineligible for all the scholarships that I have heard of. He's ineligible for the Hope because we're out of state and he's ineligible for the Presidential because we didn't discover the school until late in the process. (and probably there are stellar students that these go to).

I'm an out of state student here at Tech. I have a few scholarships that cover a decent amount of tuition/fees here. I also don't really know how much is out there, but I'm pretty sure that both merit and need are factored into the distribution.

I'm majoring in math. The CS dept here is great, a hard program however. Solid department, good faculty and facilities.
