I just logged into the application status thing today (they hadn't emailed me my login ID or PIN previously so I had to ask them for it) and it said "Congratulations! Your application for admission to Rice has been approved!" Does this mean that I am accepted or just that they have all my application materials? I am so confused... Sorry for such a dumb question from a prospective Rice student.

Approved = Accepted

Congrats!

Yeah for Rice "approved" means accepted so congratulations. And that question wasn't dumb, approved is a really odd way to say accepted. But you should have got an email acceptance too.

Oh yay! :-)

I think the reason I didn't get the email acceptance was the same reason I didn't have my login ID or PIN sent to me before... Maybe they have my email address wrong in their database or something.

dude no worries. i didn't even know they came out online and i was getting really annoyed because they told me in december or january i was in (they called to say I was a trustee scholar) and I was sitting there waiting for my packet....it came three months later.

So no worries. People like me will make you look genius =]
