Ok to drop German?

Hello everyone,

I am a high school senior currently in german 4 at my high school. I really don't want to continue taking it and want to switch into an easier class. I am currently taking 4 AP classes. However my school's policy is that if you drop a class during 1st quarter it shows up on your transcript as "withdraw passing". I know this is a term many colleges don't like to see, but how will they take it? I really don't want to be rejected from college because of it.

9th grade German 1: B
10th grade German 2: B
11th grade German 3: A-
12th grade German 4: B+ so far, but will show up as "withdraw passing" on my transcript without a grade if I drop it.

Because I got an A- in junior year do you think colleges won't mind me dropping it, and assume that I just wanted to take a different class instead? Or do you think they will assume I had a hard time in German 4, failed the class, and had to transfer out?

some of the schools I'm applying to: UVA, Carnegie Mellon, University of Maryland College Park, Georgia Tech etc...
(The transcripts they currently have show me in German 4)

Please Respond!!!

Is there any particular reason why you feel you must drop it now, rather than finishing out the semester?

I’m actually really bad at German I think my grade might go below a B if I stay. No idea how I did well last year.

I’m going to say don’t drop it. A B isn’t going to look that bad in a fairly hard foreign language (surely harder than Spanish, that was a breeze) when you already have 4 AP’s. Unless you’re absolutely feeling terrible about it, I’d just keep on going.

By your own report, you currently have a B+. Speak with your teacher about your specific difficulties with the class, and get help with them. That way you will have a decent chance of finishing the semester with a B. Then drop German and take something fun for your last semester.
