I am a junior biology major. I would like to take a non major class pass-fail. I was told this will be considered a C when I apply for PA grad schools. Someone else said as long as it’s not in your science major it’s not a factor. I will have a heavy science load which I would like to focus on. Can anyone give me some insight? Thanks.
If at MD schools it’s not considered a C, I find it surprising that it would be at PA school.
Does it just not factor into the GPA then?
I would not take any course P/F that is a prerequisite for any PA program you plan to apply to (even if it is outside of your major).
PA schools are competitive also, you do not want to take any course with P/F where it will be left for interpretation with the Adcomms.
Yes, you can…as long as this non-major class is NOT part of the PA required courses (BCMP in pre-med). Many colleges (including MIT) have mandatory pass/fail courses in general-ed.
The class I need to take is an African American Racism class which fulfills a writing intensive and cultural requirement at my college. I thought if I give the specific class this would help with any additional advice I can get. Thanks so much!
If this class is going to fulfill a first or second semester of a writing requirement, you’ll want to check the course requirements for any/all of the PA programs, you plan on applying to. Some programs require 1-2 semesters of writing for admission.
Here’s the PAEA directory of programs: http://directory.paeaonline.org
If writing classes are required, taking the class P/F isn’t going to work.
Thanks for the info. I’m not going to take it P/F just to be on the safe side.
