OK topic for UC admissions essays?

For prompt #1, the world that has shaped you - I talk about how my family takes in exchange students, how this pushes me to become a more outgoing person, and the cultural experience (we have taken Chinese and Japanese students, and the whole process is relatively new to me, so it's all fresh in my mind).

For prompt #2, interpreting it as an experience that has shaped me - How I got a C in my AP physics class (1st semester at least)--my first C in the course of my life--and how I now understand the perspective of students who simply can't grasp subjects and the value of hard work.

I'm just very worried about my second essay because I'm afraid people will interpret it as me trying to explain my C (which truly isn't that bad of a grade). My entire point is to relate how something so normal to many others baffled me and helped me to appreciate the talents I have and to value studying/determination.

As you may notice the approaching deadline, quick answers would be lovely... But I don't want anyone to feel obligated to make an essay to validate/criticise my topics. A consise answer is great too. All of your thoughts and help is very, very appreciated! :)

My personal opinion is that these topics sound good. How your essay #2 comes across depends how on you position in your essay, word choices, tone, etc.

Best of luck! :)

Oh gosh, I spelled concise wrong. :I

Thank you, eCoachJen. I really appreciate your feedback. I suppose I’m coming across as, as I was at the time, baffled/distraught (though much less so in the essay) about getting a bad grade, and then more matter-of-fact with the whole “talent only takes you so far” and value of perspective thing. My diction probably reflects this as well; I love rhetorical questions and dashes when I can use them.

And cyrato, that sounds great, thanks! I’ll try to find it, though I’m new to this site… If I can’t find it, maybe a link, haha? :)

Any other opinions? c:
