OK who else received a surprising decision?

SivRami, we are like brothers!! haha

i got denied from poly but got into davis, i think its all by chance

Yeah the major thing is kinda silly considering the majority of students here change there majors, some even more than once.

Oh and you should definitely appeal (repeal?) or whatever sivrami. I don't know what the chances are, but I think you should have good chances. Your scores are just so high.

@Serafina

Don't take my word as law, I don't really have any more of an idea than anyone else, it's mostly speculation.

I think people apply to non-impacted majors because they assume they will only have to compete with others in that major, making it easier to get it. While that might be true, I dunno if Davis, or any other university, lets in tons of these people anyway. It is probably a bit of an advantage (especially if you want to do engineering or something equally difficult to get into), but I think it would be better to just apply for something you like from the start.

Hypothetically, I imagine it would be hard to make a bunch political EC's jive with an agriculture major, for instance.

i got rejected and i got a 2080 SAT and had a 4.1 something UC gpa.

I was accepted, which I find surprising because I only have a 4.06 UCGPA and 32 ACT/2060 SAT, which is as good as or worse than a lot of people's stats here.

I believe that the majors do have a big part on the whole overall admissions decision; it could be perhaps that if you did apply to a popular major, then it would be highly competitive. However, that's what I think.

wow i am surprised, many people had the same stats as me (4.1 gpa and 2030 SAT) who got rejected. maybe majors has a lot to do with the decision?

Engineering and the Bio's (MCD, neuro, Genetics etc) are very competetive and impacted per our tour guide so maybe they do use a seperate review (Like UCSD has started to do this year) and that might explain some of the rejections. I'd like to see the average states for admits to those majors. Also, maybe because Davis gaurantees ELC admission directly into the major of their choice, that takes up a several thousand spots automatically.

I feel like I got a huge advantage from being a first generation college student and applying for EOP (low income). My stats are on par, if not worse than some of these rejections.

well i got in for exercise biology and my stats were not amazing

3.5 GPA
32 ACT
1930 SAT

5 AP classes, 2 honors
but i did have lots of EC's many holding a pres or VP position
my essays were good in my opinion

white, female, no first generation college student or low income family
i was very surprised by my acceptance, but hey there is hope out there for those next year!

Rejected at Davis; Accepted with Regents at Santa Barbara

SAT 2200
SAT II: Math 2 780, Physics 750
ACT 34 =~ SAT 2250
uc weighted gpa 4.1
Heavy senior year
AP Bio, Stat, & calc
Athletics: 4 yrs. football, 3 yrs. track
essays: good

Problem: not under-represented minority (URM), not low income
Surprised because of stats; not surprised because of UCD history of Bakke vs. UC

I kind of get annoyed at the whining over URM and low income.

Plenty of people get in without either, thank you.

For the rest of the UCs, it's easier to say that your selected major has no impact on your decision, but as Davis separates College of Biology from the College of Letters and Sciences where it is usually included, it's quite possible for those that chose Bio majors that it was harder to get in.

@gotouc - The others I could sort of understand, as they either lacked in GPA, or lacked in test scores, but I dont understand why you were rejected. Great SAT and your GPA is pretty high too. In fact, our stats are almost exactly the same (2190 SAT, 4.12 GPA) and our senior year curriculum is almost identical. If your extracurrics and essays were as good as you said, I dont see why they would reject you. It's definitely not URM or low income, as I'm neither. Were you not ELC?

not ELC

rejected. very unexpected.

LMFAO @ gotouc " Surprised because of stats; not surprised because of UCD history of Bakke vs. UC "Surprised because of stats; not surprised because of UCD history of Bakke vs. UC "

Accepted
3.3 gpa uw
SAT score around 1650-1750
dude you're reference to that court case is hilarious. you're rejected not bc you're boring, but its because they know that you consider ucd as a safetly. Your stats are way to high for them, and they know that giving you a spot will be a waste cause ur not gonna take it. It happens to quite a number of top applicants.

^ UCD is not tufts, it is a public university and should let in everyone qualified. UCD was pretty weird this year, I did not apply, but many of my friends did, and some not so awesome ones got in over more awesome ones.

Rejected; with a 4.0 UC GPA and a 2120 SAT I.

Somewhat surprised, my friend with a higher GPA and lower SAT also was rejected.

I was accepted with a 3.5 GPA and SAT's weren't that great... :)
BTW I'm a Biological Sciences major

i know a lot of people who didnt get in davis last year but got in all of the other UC's. I think especially since this year they are letting in fewer people to a lot of the schools that the people who got in davis are less likely to get in sd etc...

i got in davis with pretty bad stats...

1740 SATs
SAT2's in the 500s
3.85 GPA UW

BOMB ECs & Essays

if you are super qualified and didnt get in, you will get in no problem on an appeal im sure.
