ok why the heck not

alright, so as i'm nervously anticipating NU's decision, i would like to prepare myself emotionally for what's to come so evaluations on my chances would be MUCH appreciated. i applied early to Medill btw

-SAT I: 2260 (800 CR, 660 M, 800 W - 12 essay)
-SAT IIs: 800 Lit, 680 Math IC, 650 U.S. Hist, 470 Bio-E (i know, it's disgusting. do you think they'll still pay attention to that seeing as how i'm not planning on pursuing anything science-related? :()
-GPA: sucks. 3.67 W, idk what it is UW. i got mostly a's in all my english/humanities-type classes, but mostly c's or low b's for math. crap.

Essays:

Recs:
-2 really good, 1 not so sure :(
-counselor one was good. one of the few that she didn't use a default/already-made recommendation for

please be honest! i know it's a reach considering my low GPA and not that many journalism-related EC's but knowing how much of a reach it would be would help to relieve my anxiety and know where i stand. thanks again!

oh and i'm also currently employed at two afterschool learning centers as an Assistant Teacher (teach math & english, grade tests/HW)

Sarahahah, I think you have a fairly good chance.

I'm honestly no expert about NU admissions, but your SAT scores are pretty impressive (upper quartile, I believe, of NU undergraduates accepted).

Hmm...about that GPA....I'm not certain how much emphasis Northwestern places on that aspect of the application. It seems like you have taken a very rigorous academic schedule, which will help, but not having a class rank will make it difficult for the admissions board to determine how your class difficulty compares to others.

Applying ED should help that, I'm assuming

Sooo...I don't know if I helped at all, but I wish you the very best and good luck!

thanks Richtra! good luck to you too :D yeah, my school got rid of ranking last year.. i know i'm not top 10% but i might be somewhere near it? idk =( i'll have to ask my guidance counselor.

anyone else's opinions?

i predict VERY good :D

how long have you been working on the newspaper? did you get any journalism awards? since you're applying to the journalism school, i'm pretty sure they want to see more of that stuff. as a genearl candidate, however, looks good

hey, i'm just going to ask because i'm curious and nervous as well...i'm basically in the opposite position of sarahahah. i am a journalism based student, editor-in-chief of newspaper and lit journal and i participated in the northwestern medill summer program. i applied to weinberg because i realized that i don't actually like journalism. i didn't really communicate this in my application, i just really emphasized my love for northwestern. do you think this ruined my chances? i applied ED.

its not going to ruin your chances, but if your essay was about northwestern and why its great, thats a problem. They want to hear about you; they dont' want to hear people talk about how great northwestern is.

thanks bver. i've been on the paper for 3 yrs but i've never entered any sort of journalism contest and thus have no awards to show my interest for the field. for the Why NU essay though, including why i wanted to go to medill, i also tied in how i became interested in journalism and why i want to pursue it.. so hopefully that conveyed my message. blah, who knows! all i can do is wait =( and eagleeye are you asking if your previous journalism interest somehow ruined your chances of getting into weinberg? if thats what it is, then i dont think so at all b/c it could have just been a hobby of yours and not something that you really wanted to go into and im sure the adcoms would understand that

ull do fine =]

thank you sarahaha..even if i don't get in, that comforts me! i spent two months working on my essays, but it was my first application ever so i wasn't too knowledgeable about the college process. i should have explained more about why i no longer wanted to pursue journalism. oh well. but, my essay was definitely not just 'rah rah northwestern' it was about me and why NU is the right fit for me. haha...well it might not be the right fit but we'll see in a few days.
