Okay, am i about to be screwed?

I am about 2 buy a laptop, for 300 bux. Now this is not just a crap laptop, but a Dell Inspiron 9300 with ATI x300 128 mb gpu, 80 gigs, 1.73 ghz, 1 gig ddr ram, about a 1.4k laptop.

Very cheap, but I think for legitimate reason. They say that their company ( a liquidation company ) has too many excess units of these from an in-company promotion.

They also have an 800 number and seem fairly legit.

However, they do not accept Escrow or COD, and so I am forced to pay through credit card, money order, or cashier's check.

I can contact them by phone usually and the guy seems very nice and understanding, but unfortunately there is no way of being sure that this isn't a complete scam.
Now this is from an online auction but not ebay, so there is no paypal buyer protection or anything like that. It is almost like a private transaction occurring.
They say they offer shipping tracker as well though which helps me a bit, and also since they have a 1800 number, if i get screwed over, i can call them every hour of the day, every day of the month to try and resolve something.

Should I go thru with it? It seems like too huge of a deal to pass over, yet it isnt guaranteed to be safe.

I have an undestanding that cashier's check has protection? So even if i do pay him with that, it is possible to get my money back?

Whatever you decide, use Money Order...theres a federal law about fraud using money orders.

Also...is there a website? Thats a sick deal.

I would call your credit card company and see what exactly they say. Ask them what happens if you do get scammed.

I was scammed from an online company that was called freedelivery4u. It seemed extremely legit, and the prices were very reasonable. Also, the tracking number...I had one too, but I'd ordered a digital camera, and the weight was only a pound on the package. What had happened was the scammers had scammed about 50K worth of goods and sent out a 1 pound package to every customer so he would have a tracking number...inside the package was a miniflash card holder. For some reason, this scammer was pretty stupid...I called my credit card company and they told me that he forgot to charge me! I lucked out...I feel sorry for some, though, that sent money orders who lost their money.

Anyways, the point is that I wouldn't do it any way aside from credit card and make sure you KNOW your credit card companies rules on being scammed.

...also, for the record, this happened like 3 years ago, and the scammers haven't been found yet as far as I know...; therefore, bobbobbob, although there might be a law about fraud using money orders (I don't mean to sound quick or snappy, but there's a federal law about fraud period), big deal. Does the government pay if you get scammed through a money order? Because credit cards, as far as I know, reimburse if you've been scammed.

apparently credit card has some sort of fraud protection, however, im not sure if its safe to give out my credit card number

...it's a risk, but if they do have fraud protection and money reimbursement, I wouldn't be too worried; to be safe, I'd cancel the card and reopen an account if I found out I did get scammed

Thats true with the credit cards. Im not sure about the laws with money orders but I know what whenever I use ebay, my parents always say to use money order...and since my dad used to be a cop, I tend to believe him. haha.

Is there a website?

apparently they dont have a website, but what does it take to get a toll free number? is it hard? or can some random dude do it.

...one more thing you could do...go online to the Better Business Burea's website and see about the complaints (or compliments) listed for this "legit" company.

also, if you don't mind, post the website if there is one...

http://auctions.yahoo.com/i::100914098
check it out and plz reply

oh yea thats a good idea....go online and research the company.

hmm...honestly, i've never ever used ebay before

BUT, interesting that there isn't a single comment for the user good or bad...possibly and probably a new user...I'm still unsure...a bit skeptical here; if it's legit, then it's an awesome deal

BUT, I'm reminded that if it's too good to be true, it probably is....

it looks like he's sold (or claims to have sold...) Ipods b/f too...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH u have no idea how much im stresing over this.

I would take the risk of doing a transaction as long as there is a guarantee of me getting the $$ back if it indeed doesnt come but there is no method like that is there?

your credit card may cover fraud...you might be able to get insurance for the money orders too. look it up.

yes i called him and he says he also has ipods and xbox 360s and that was correct. it is a liquidation company so i mean its legitimate to have more than 1 item to sell off

I also found Powermac G4s...

...i know this won't make the decision any easier, but the company that frauded me...they had a number they answered until a certain day and time....the lady who answered the phone was also nice...

How? Because if they fraud like that and have a consisent number and things like that, isn't it easy for them to be caught?

i don't know...PM me your SN...something else looks fishy...
