Okay, but for real. How preppy is it?

Hi guys! I was really excited to get my Hamilton acceptance. I loved the campus, the writing emphasis, the curriculum, and my interviewer. I was also accepted to Grinnell, which has a lot of similar things but is in the Midwest instead of the Northeast, and is honestly very similar to the high school I go to in terms of its student body. I’m waiting to hear from my dream school, but if that doesn’t work out (likely), Hamilton has been my second choice for a while now.

I don’t want to go to an /overly/ preppy school, but the school I go to now is so anti-preppy that honestly a little bit would be a change of pace, though I fear I wouldn’t fit in as well. My mom heavily favors Grinnell and a huge part of me sees why she does, but I already got so excited about Hamilton. Help?

Will a lightly hipster aspiring comedian/novelist fit in at Hamilton? Just how preppy is it? Is it all just stereotypes?

thanx yall

If you are seriously concerned about the social mix at Hamilton, remember that once you are at the College, then you are Hamilton, as much as any other student there. Right now, in fact, there may be a preppy accepted-student who is contemplating Hamilton and wondering whether she will fit in with the “lightly hipster aspiring comedian/novelist” types there. Be kind to her.

My daughter is there and is not preppy at all and fits in just fine. It’s really a mix. My son, on the other hand, goes to school down south and it is very preppy. Vineyard Vines, etc.

For others reading this topic, Hamilton may be preppy in terms of a palatable reality present among a significant fraction of the student body, but not so in terms of objectionable affectation and ostentation that is often, and perhaps improperly, associated with the term “preppy.”
