alright, i writing the second choice essay for cornell. Are they going to be compared or not?
like there's a topic that i consider relevant in the first essay. I wrote about how i want to do law after UG etc. should i include it in the second choice essay or do i just talk about completely different things?

I really don’t know what to tell you since its YOUR essay
but I talked about two TOTALLY different things and it was fine

If you’re talking about the primary/alternate choice, then no, I don’t think they’ll be compared. In fact, according to the person who gave me a campus tour of Cornell, your alternate school choice does not even know that they were an alternate, and the primary school choice doesn’t know if you have an alternate choice. The tour guide told me that they’re completely separate and unaware of each other. If your primary choice decides to defer you, the application gets sent to the alternate school, which does not know that you had been deferred by the other school.
The person who told me all of this was a Cornell student tour guide, so I’m not 100% sure if it’s true. However, she did sound like she knew a lot about the process and since she was a tour guide, I would hope that she would only tell me something like that if she knew it to be true. You can call the admissions office if you have any other questions about it.
I used the primary/alternate choice and I used a few paragraphs in both essays since they applied to both essays. Just make sure that you don’t use the same essay for both, because each college is asking a different question and if you can use the exact same essay to answer both, you probably aren’t answering the question specifically enough.

Q: Will my essays for both my primary and alternate choice colleges be read by both colleges?
A: It is possible that both colleges will review your primary and alternate choice college essays.

So, your essays should not contradict.
