Okay, I'm a Senior Getting Ready to Apply to Colleges...

Okay, it's college time for me...well, not yet, but soon.

I have to begin looking at colleges and choosing which ones I want to apply to. I'm having a rather difficult time doing so. What I want from you guys is to give me your input.

Right now, the SUNYs I'm looking at are Geneseo, Binghamton, and Stonybrook. I'm pretty sure I can get into all of them seeing as how my SAT scores (verbal 600, math 600, writing 680) fall in the minimum of all three, and my average is 90.08.

However, the problem is private colleges: the two I'm interested in are NYU and Boston University (more so BU).

The thing is that for Boston University, one's SAT scores have to be... verbal 600-690, math 621-700, and writing 630-690. I have two of those covered and barely fall out of the math range. Also, BU requires two SAT 2s and I haven't taken any yet. Do you think I should take the SAT 2s (sign-up dates for the last ones this year are in three days) and apply to BU or will I most likely not get in no matter what?

As for NYU, the SAT scores have to be... math 610-700, verbal 610-700, and writing 640-700. I am good in the writing, but I just barely fall out of the range in the other two sections. Now, same as BU...should I take the SAT 2s (NYU requires two of them as well since it's a Private College) or will I not get in with my scores?

What do you fellas recommend I do?

(BTW, the minimum SAT scores were taken from my Princeton Review 2006 Edition College Book.)

Is that a weighted gpa? What are your ecs? I'm surprised NYUs minimum SAT score is so low.. only 1860 for an ivy league? (NYU is ivy right?)

NYU doesn't have minimum scores. NYU is not Ivy League.

My average is the combined total of all three years of high school up to senior year.

And also, about NYU, I'm 99% sure it's not an Ivy League.

NYU is most definitely not an ivy league.

Okay guys, we already covered NYU isn't an Ivy League.

Now, about my topic? Hehe.

NYU doesnt require 2 SATS, thats for next yr though, but they said it's reccommended.

your SAT scores aren't great but they're not bad either. you seem to be under the impression that scores in the schools range equates to acceptance. that's not really true. the scores you looked up are most like the median scores of the schools (so actual score can fall on either side of that range) if we had some more info about you then it would help, but that satII situation is your decision, if you think your ec's and everything else are really powerful enough to give you a shot then go for it

and thanks for the laugh AzN

Wait, so NYU doesn't require SAT II's yet?

By the way, the two SAT II's I WOULD take would be Math 1 and Literature, but I haven't taken AP math or anything (only AP psychology) so I don't know how I'd fare... And do you think my scores (let's say I did take the SAT 2) could get me into Boston Uni?

Come on guys, a little more help--that's all I ask for. :p

I'd say it's certainly possible, if you've got other things going for you (like being a fortune500 CEO or something general of that nature)

heh. I'm only kidding. You've got a shot I think, as long as your SATIIs are good, and your application is pretty.

Unless you have some super great essays, wonderful awards for EC's or something about you that is great, you may not want to bother applying to NYU or BU. You chances are low. I would be more careful about finding some safeties. Binghamton and Geneseo are matches at best. You need to be in the upper half of the SAT range before you can be reasonably confident and even then it may not happen.

just clarifying things. NYU isnt an ivy league.
