okay let's say

you bombed first semester junior year but second semester you're on the verge of getting straight a's would all decent colleges reject you?

'cause im kinda in that position right now.
i got bs/cs last semester and this semester im doing pretty well, im really proud of myself.

If you can explain that slip up (it is a slip up right?) to colleges in your essay or something, then no, they wouldn't automatically reject you.

yeah, i have straight as at the moment, but last semester my grades were pretty bad.

it will look bad. but a sharp improvement will save you (at some school).

maybe if you incorporate your sudden awakening towards your school life in your essays colleges will appreciate that. no one is perfect so the best thing you can do is bring up and maintain your grades and be honest

well i'm really leaning towards UC Irvine, UC San Diego, or UC Davis.

I'd go to UC Santa Cruz but at the moment it isn't my first choice. So yeah, I'm just pretty worried that I won't be accepted.

I doubt it. I got into UC Berkeley with a 3.75 first semester junior year and 2.66 the other.

Also into Yale.

are you serious? cause right now my cumulative gpa is 2.68 ... and yeah, i dont know how much higher that would go if i maintain my gpa, but you really think i'd get in?

also: i've never really gotten more than 2 as every semester -- is that something they'd take into consideration?

wow on the verge if straight A's?? meaning not A's already? Umm I sure hope you have a strong 2 previous years.
Well if you have strong ECs, and special Experiences that will strengthen your chances. They never completely eliminate everyone, they're alway a few who don';t even make the top 25%. Let me site some numbers off, as I have this 'Ultimate College Guide' from USNews. My father bought it for my brother who is a Junior. I'm a Freshman though...
the UC schools don't tend to have the same trend but anyways...
at Standford 89% of undergrads made the top 10%, and 98% made the top 25%...that is 2% who didn't even make the top 25%...
Rice had 87% make the top 10%, and 95% make the top 25%...
you don't want to blow your grades off but I would never say it's impossible to Get accepted to any school.
UC Schools will be a little harder but since you're an instate you should have a leg up. You're lucky I want to go to Berkeley but I will have to work my pants off to have a good chance.

well i have straight as at the moment but ... you never know you know?
and i got mostly bs with a few as freshman and sophomore year .. junior year first semester .. lets just not talk about that. like i dont want to use my depression issue as an excuse you know? my math teacher accidentally entered "95" when i got a "75" and well i feel that i should go to the college i deserve to go to so i told her about it. anyone else would've just kept quiet.

uc davis is my top choice -- cause i've visited it.
im visiting uc irvine, uc san diego, and san diego state university during spring break
