During my college your to east coast, I have heard of good and (very few) bad things from my friends at Columbia, and stuffs. 1. It is basically girls at Wash U is ugly (please don't get me wrong). I like to interact with good looking people. 2. another bad thing is it is in MO, and St. Louis sucks (compared to NYC, Boston, LA, San Francisco, etc.) 3. competatve (not sutthroat, but hard A)

Shouldn’t your deposit have been (at least) postmarked by yesterday?

1.) Girls at WashU aren’t terrible. Obviously these are not UMiami girls, but for what they are – “hot nerds” – they’re not bad at all.

2.) St. Louis is not NYC, and it’s not trying to be NYC. At most schools, you will spend the vast majority of your time on campus. This may be not true for Columbia, BU, etc., but honestly, there is enough to do around WashU that you probably won’t find yourself wishing you were in NYC. What aspects of NYC, Boston, etc., are you looking for?

3.) The academics are very challenging, but there is a much more collaborative atmosphere than at other top schools. People tend to be competitive with themselves and not others.

■■■■■. Don’t feed it… And if not a ■■■■■…sigh…

Really. If thegenius is for real, it would be stunning.

dude palm, i can see you are an aged parent, not a student. However, you call ■■■■■ too much, call me ■■■■■ in the real world, and see what happens. I understand that it sounds a bit wierd questions to ask, but i want to know things like that before attending. I cannot always ask good, positive things about a college. My friends at columbia told me “dude, you really wanna go to washu? it is in the middle east if you wanna work a nyc, go to columbia, or some school in new england”. so don’t get me wrong I am almost set my mind. I will try to visit washu this monday. There are always pros and cons at any colleges, including washu and harvard.

Are you really trying to say that you, as an 17/18/19 year-old high school student, would physically retaliate against the words of an “aged parent?”

Hahahaha.

soo if you have harvard as a choice, why in the world would you want to go to washU? harvard is right in boston so it will have a huge social life, plus all the other colleges within a decent radius = more girls (since that’s what you’re worried about)… harvard is also an ivy so clearly, you’ll have an easier time getting a job with a harvard degree than a washU degree so what’s all the hype with washU?

so is it to WashU that you’re considering sending your deposit at this point, or are these last minute questions to make sure you’re going to be happy picking another school?

Anyway, tall saint said everything that can be said, I think. It’s not like we’re going to diss WashU girls on our own forum, and as little as that sort of thing varies from school to school there is absolutely no point in generalizing, much less caring what Columbia students have to say about it… And it is about as minimally competitive as a school can get and still have top-notch academics - i’m not sure why anyone still asks this question, as “not cutthroat” is practically a WashU selling point…

anyway then.

Maybe I am being rude, but please don’t come to WashU, you sound like a very unpleasant person that I personally would not like to meet.
If being in a city like NYC or Boston is important for you, and you have the option to go to a school there, then by all means go to one of those schools, it will only make you happier in the long run.
And if you aren’t as rude as you seem based on your post, then I hope you find what you’re looking for, and hopefully I will see you come August.

I think you should go to Columbia, Harvard or whatever. You don’t sound like a good fit for WashU.

Do you really think thegenius is real? Surely no one is that dysfunctional, or at least shallow and misinformed.

I don’t think anyone could come off in real life quite the way he’s coming off on the forums. (for better or worse…)

I’m pretty sure he’s for real though - probably the same person as Gunn, actually. I don’t think I can say it any better than Albo, honestly. No matter what school you go to, a bit of consideration and coherence go a long way.

Is anyone else extremely disturbed by his command of the English language?
Obvious ■■■■■ is obvious.
If not a ■■■■■, the parents gave a large donation to send their half-■■■■■■■■ kid to a top tier university.

who cares if this person is a ■■■■■ or not. sure, the questions are worded in a ludicrous manner, but move beyond that.

if he is a real person, then he’ll be joining the WUSTL community in the fall, and we should embrace and accept him. i didn’t choose to go to a school where people’s attitudes are of cynicism and abruptness.

even if he is a ■■■■■, the questions are still semi-legitimate (and would be actually legitimate if they were worded better), and other people reading this CC form can learn from our answers. people get a big impression from a college based on how you handle situations like this.

1) Girls and Guys here representative of a typical college student population. They don’t accept your application based on your picture or something. It’s been my observational experience that there aren’t really many overweight people here. So many people run in the Forest Park, down Wydown and Forsyth, around campus, etc. It’s a pretty fit campus, on the whole. It doesn’t matter what you look like, this is a pretty non-judgemental school (compared with other schools’ cultures).

2) St Louis doesn’t suck. Sure, it’s not like Boston or NYC. But, 90% of your time will be spent on campus, anyway. St Louis is a great place to spend 4 college years… you won’t be bored. Just don’t get stuck in the vicious cycle of “oh, this isn’t NYC, so i’m going to complain instead of doing something about it.” Make an effort to actually explore and do things. It’s not in the middle of a downtown area, and that’s part of the charm of campus. However, it is certainly light years better than where Dartmouth, Princeton, etc, are located. It’s a nice compromise between a big city, and a low-key city. It’s the 2nd biggest city in the midwest. There are amazing museums, parks, the zoo, restaurants, and great selection of shopping. Just take time to explore and get off campus, because most of its walking/biking distance anyway, and you get the Free Metro passes.

And, you know what, there’s only like four good schools in Boston and two good schools in NYC. Where else do people go? A small town in New Jersey like Princeton? Raleigh, North Carolina for Duke? Middle of nowhere like Williams, Amherst, Dartmouth, etc? Yale, which is in an industrial town in Connecticut? UChicago or Northwestern which take like 30 minutes to actually get to the city of Chicago? Like, come on. Even Stanford isn’t that close to San Francisco… its in Palo Alto which, while nice, isn’t exactly hopping. Get over it… chances are you aren’t going to end up living in the place you go to college, anyway. Look at it as a 4 year experience to go somewhere that you probably wouldn’t go otherwise. Maintain a positive attitude, make an effort to do stuff, and as long as your city has a decent selection of shopping/restaurants/parks/activities, then you’ll be fine. And, St Louis totally has all of that.

3) Wash U is anti-cutthroat. Even in pre-med. It is definitely pretty low-key and collaborative, and that’s why so many people choose to come here instead of other schools.

k lulz yes ur assumption that the gurlz at washu is ugly is sooooo correct. and your friends at cornell are probasbly so much cooler and much moar good lookin n stuff , and ya st louis is bascialy the biggest hick town in probably the entir world and the sports suck, and ther is nutin ever fun to do around campus…so if u luv ugly gurlz come HERE…1!!11!!one

… mk. how remarkable

anyway, sounds like your options are pretty good all around, thegenius.

one thing to note… if schools have good looking girls is something that is on the mind of A LOT of guys before they choose a school… Don’t make this guy out to be some horrible guy because he had the balls to actually say ask what was on his mind… and his other two questions were legitimate… This guy just happened to be much more bold then most other guys.

Basing a decision on where to go to college on the attractiveness of girls is a terrible idea. Hey, the worst case scenario is you develop goggles :)
