Okay so I agreed to meet this guy at a coffee shop. Is this something that I need to prepare for? Or is it just a casual conversation like meeting? Also how long do most of them last?

i think its casual thats what my email said. it actually said i may have either a group or individual meeting but I wont know until I get there...
what should I wear. I'm a girl- do I have to wear a skirt or are black pants and a cardigan okay?
its just so cold I dont feel like wearing a skirt

Black pants and a cardigan are fine. I actually met with a kid on Saturday who wore ripped jeans and a hoodie.

I had mine a few days ago. It went well, it was pretty casual. Mine was at the interviewer's house. I dressed up only a little and I think that that was enough. It took about 40 min. The questions were mostly easy, like "why do you want to go to Cornell?"

i just got a call too. jeans and collared shirt fine for guys?? this should be interesting.

The alumni "interviews" are not interviews in the literal sense - they're informational meetings for applicants. Of course you should try to present yourself well, but don't be anxious about preparing. Just be yourself. The alums meeting with you are doing so because they are enthusiastic about Cornell and excited to share their experiences with you, so ask them what you really wanted to know about Cornell, not just the canned questions in all of those "how to get into college" books.

haha i had a group one today and there were a lot of those questions.. i was just cringing. i cant wait for this to be over!

CayugaRed: and what did you think of that individual?

My D got a call for an interview at another school and the interviewer told her to wear shorts since they were meeting at a Starbucks near the beach. (It's been in the 80's the past week.)

Would my interviewer have my application?

Absolutely not. Your alumni contact would know your name, what high school you go to, contact information, and what college/major you applied to. That's about it.

I had mine yesterday. I thoght it went well. It was 50 min. almost exact. I say wear what you feel comfortable in. But then again, we are all different. My parents wanted me to wear a pull over sweater with a button-up underneath and some slaks. but truly thats not me. So I wore a sports jacket with brown jeans. boots and button up. I felt very comfortable. The outfit should represent who you are. As long as you feel confident and dont look trashy you should be fine. If you like to stand out[like me] go for it! Dont hold back.

But also not be something that you wouldn't want your grandmother to see you wearing at a family holiday party.
