its called Tufts syndrome, many insecure schools practice it!!!

lol okay then...

haha sorry i just have to point out... with the most applicants out of any school in the country, i doubt you could label UCLA "insecure"

quantity does not imply quality

no, not at all, but then again, i'm not sure what your basis for the insecurity thing is - but the stats of UCLA admits do, and it helps to have a large applicant pool to select from.

haha, is there no one else up at this hour? who needs sleep anyway?

yes, "you can sleep the first year you're dead" -from my SAT review book

a lot of underqualified students apply to UCLA as a "lottery" while a lot of highly qualified ivy applicants use it as a safety, I think that leads to the large numbers

btw, I think UT Austin is bigger, though I may be wrong

Oh yeah it definitely is - UT Austin is huge - they have 38,000 undergrads alone (UCLA has about 26000 undergrads). But applications-wise, UCLA handles more per year.

And yeah, sleep is for pansies - I work 16 hour shifts overnight from 3pm-7am... thats the way to go

where do you work?

I work for UCLA Emergency Medical Services - best job in the world, if i do say so

Icarus...you need to sleep.

Excited about Reagan Medical and other new buildings?

haha yeah - i stay up late, but sleep in as long as possible as well ;)

And for sure I'm stoked about the new hospital. I can't wait to see the new ER. The whole thing is supposed to be basically paperless and wireless. Very spiffy :p
The reshaping of Westwood Pl. should be interesting, as well - there's going to be a big circular type thing right in front of the hospital with a fountain in the middle.

I think it's pretty much cleared up now that the "conspiracy theory" is just a myth...but I just wanted to add my two cents in. If you think about it...UCB releases decision after UCLA...so if you can only get into one or the other...doesn't that mean UCB is left with only UCLA rejects and those that didn't apply to UCLA? That drastically narrows down UCB's choices since a lot of good students apply to both UCB and UCLA. Since that's not likely the theory is probably not true. :)
