Alright well I've noticed that I have never received an email/letter from NYU... ever (as in one of those "junk" emails that asks you to order some booklet and how they show interest in you and yadda yadda). I have received letters from Yale, Columbia, Northwestern, Duke, UPenn, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, etc. but I have never received anything from NYU? I know they send out stuff, because my friends tell me about it, but for some reason I never receive anything.

I have scored competitively on just about every test I've taken so far (Junior year PSAT was a 219, my SAT is a 2230 and my ACT is a 33, all within range for NYU) and my grades are decent, yet I still don't get any emails from them? I plan on applying to NYU early decision, but if they don't have any interest in me now then why should I waste my early decision applying there? Is there a specific reason that they aren't sending me anything?

have you ever shown interest in them? I’m not sure how NYU’s mailing works but some schools you need to sign up to receive info about them in order for them to send stuff…

I’m fairly confident you don’t have to show any “interest” per-se; for example, I have a twin who I’m pretty sure has not shown any interest and he scores much lower than me on standardized tests (175 compared to 219 on PSAT and 1760 compared to 2230 on SAT). He has received emails/letters from NYU while I have not (but I do receive letters from other colleges, such as Yale/Stanford, that he does not receive).

90% of the time, YOU need to show interest in THEM. Trust me, that’s what most people do. Most good schools don’t come to you, you go to them.

All it takes is a Google search to sign up for mailings: https://www1.albert.nyu.edu:4901/cgi-bin/sisadm.cgi?sys_template=mtprug&sys_application=mtprug&inst=ny&au=ug .

I signed up for mailings at the beginning of my junior year, and I got in RD. Granted, that’s not all it takes, but if it comes down to you and kid just like you, you might get in for showing enthusiasm and interest. Good luck.

If you sign up for their mailing list they will definitely send you mail. Not getting mail from them doesn’t mean they aren’t interested in you, it just means that they don’t have you on your mailing list
