If say we are applying to six schools that use the common app, is it okay to use the same essays for all of them since the common app has the same essay topics? How many times is considered too much when recycling an essay?

If you use the Common App, you have to use the same essay for all the schools you apply to. The Common App no longer lets you modify the application for each school.

Recycling your own essay is a routine part of admissions practice limited only by the number of schools you apply to and the suitability of the essay to a given prompt.

Recycling other peoples' essays is completely forbidden.

Recycling essays (as long as they're your own, as Scipio noted) is fine. As far as how to submit different ones, you can do so if you send applications through the mail. I suppose you can't change the essays if you send the app online, as you once could.

what if you have different "additional information" for each school....do supplements normally have spaces for additional info?

Dear Yale,

yada yada yada........

And that's why I want to go to Harvard.

Yes, the supplements are where you write "Why I want to go to Yale" or put in specific additional information.
