I’m a current High School senior, and I have recently been admitted into the musical theater program at OCU. I truly love the school, but I fear that their emphasis on classical singing will not further develop my more “contemporary” style. I also am wondering if the program is competitive… or if I am on of many to be granted admission. Any thoughts from parents or current students (at OCU or not) would be so appreciated Thank you!
The MT students get both classical and the more contemporary training there. The VP students focus on the classical only. They have an excellent voice faculty and one of the best dance programs in the country - the MTs are allowed to take dance with that dance faculty - that is not always the case at schools with great dance programs. The MT program is a Bachelor degree and not a BFA. It is challenging. They do have a BFA Acting program that some MTs choose to do instead - they still have the voice/dance training, but academically it’s not as challenging.
Do you have any knowledge of the training that the MT redirects to the BA in Music receive? I understand they do not have the same vocal teachers that the MTs get.
