Has anyone heard anything about the OKC musical theater program?

Please do a search of the Musical Theater Forum as there are numerous threads on OCU. Further, if you look at the top of the Musical Theater forum, we have sub forums for many of the musical theater colleges/programs. There is one devoted solely to OCU and within that forum, there are many threads. Happy reading!

They are conduction their auditions NOW and accepting audition tapes. They recently held their East Coast Audition session in Rochesterm NY. Their new facility looks FANTASTIC and there are many threads that have been running on this board in the past few weeks. Check them out and good luck!

I think that the original poster was asking about the BFA program, and not the summer program, but I could be wrong. Both have excellent reputations.

It doesn't matter as far as the regional auditions go- they are held at the same place at the same time(and I apologize for my typo, "conducting", NOT conduction!). There were kids there who had driven from Maryland and Virginia to Rochester for college auditions as well as kids there trying for spots in the summer programs. So, if they haven't yet come to your area,it's a chance to audition without having to go through the "tape submisssion" route.

I took my D to the Rochester audition for the summer school program. The OCU reps were great. As I understand it, they tape you while you are there. Then they review the tape with other faculty members at OCU.

I took my D too! She did a "Dual Audition" for both the MT and Vocal Performance programs. I wonder if they know each other? What school does your daughter go to and how old is she? If they both go ,perhaps they can travel together.....?

Has anyone heard from the OCU summer program, yet? Only one week to go and we are getting anxious.

They had to make DVDs of each tape and distribute them to the faculty adjudicators who were supposed to be going over them during the holidays. So we should all hear shortly. Good luck to all of you and if anyone hears anything, please post it-even if you just want to say that you have an envelope but haven't opened it yet!!

We received an email from Dan Meagher saying that we will deinitely hear by or on January 15th.

Check your email. My D. got an email today from OCU. She was accepted into both the MT and Vocal Arts summer programs. We are both excited. Good luck everyone.

Just received the email! My D was accepted, too. Yay!!!! Our daughters will most likely get to know each other this summer. We can't wait to find out which musical they choose for session 2.
Congratulations chelle's D!!!

My D received her acceptance today too, to both the Vocal Arts Insitute and the MT session! Since we don't live all that far from "chelle", it looks like our daughters will be heading west together!

Oops- forgot to say that my D is doing Session 2 for the MT part also!

We also heard today from OCU. My D will attending the MT session 1.

Congtratulations Lulu'sMomma and louisiana mom!!!

Wow, that is 4 girls from CC accepted already. We'll have to all meet each other. How old are your D's? Mine will be 16.

I'm so thankful that I found CC, because I never would have known about OCU's program otherwise. I have heard nothing but wonderful things here about it.

What is the difference between the vocal arts institute and the MT part of the OCU summer program? Also, how long as the sessions?

It not only takes natural talent, but technical skill and dedication to make it in the demanding world of classical vocal performance. Oklahoma City University is world-renowned for its demanding and professional vocal training, producing award-winning vocalists and Metropolitan Opera legends.

The Vocal Arts Institute is designed to nurture and encourage those who wish to study the art and technique of classical songs and arias. This classically based program focuses on the young singer who wishes to pursue a career in classical voice or a student who wishes to develop their classical technique and skills.

This two-week residency program is open to high school and undergraduate college students. Admission is based on a successful live audition or audition submission. The demanding curriculum examines classical technique, breathing, diction, foreign language and solo repertoire. Each student receives private voice lessons and will also do ensemble work through scene study. Public performances and recitals add to each student’s experience. The program will culminate with a final performance of art songs and opera scenes.

Audition submission required for admission.

Oklahoma City University is recognized worldwide as a leader in musical theater, producing Tony, Grammy & Emmy award winners. The Summer Music Theater Program is for high school students (rising 9th through graduating 07 seniors) and provides the same training that our award-winning OCU music majors receive. Students from all over the nation and the world attend our program which offers both classroom training and on-stage experience. Students will be trained in the new $38 million Bass Music Center – the most technologically up-to-date music facility in the nation.

Mornings have our students in the classroom with a demanding pre-college curriculum of dance, music theory, and acting. Afternoons feature master classes in audition preparation, scene study, diction, vocal pedagogy, improv and voice master classes with Bass voice faculty. Evenings and weekends are reserved for rehearsals for our fully staged musical. Shows for summer 2007 will be Tony-winners "Les Miserables" and "The Pajama Game". The shows have not been scheduled as to when they will be presented.

The high school program is very selective. Admission is based on a successful live audition or audition submission. DVD or videotape is preferred but CD and audio cassette are also accepted for audition submissions.

The high school program is residential with double-occupancy, air conditioned rooms. There is a common room with cable TV and a microwave. A food plan provides students with three meals a day on weekdays and two (brunch, dinner) on weekends in the OCU cafeteria.

Dr Ragsdale is my D's voice teacher at OCU. She is a sophomore there. For the past 3 years, she has sung O Holy Night at our church on Christmas Eve (starting as a high school senior) and it is amazing to hear the progress she has made. I (and others) can really tell a difference each year. She really likes him and the other voice faculty at OCU is equally good. It will be a great opportunity for your daughters to attend the summer program.
