Hi,

I've been accepted into both schools, but OSU has offered me a full scholarship(I live in Illinois, so I'd be paying out-of-state tuition for both) I've read some conflicting things about OSU though, mostly that the people there are racist and close minded, and that the education was not as good as it could be.

What I want to know is if their Animal Science program is any good; if it is I can deal with the people there and just go there for my education. I don't care about partying or anything like that.

I do plan on applying to vet school after I complete my major, and I know Iowa's vet school is good, but I haven't heard of anything about Oklahoma.

If anybody can give me insight into Oklahoma's Animal Science program I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Unless the OOS fees at Iowa State are affordable for your family, I really think that this is a no-brainer. What exactly is covered by your “full scholarship”? Just tuition and fees, or are housing, food, books, etc. included? Vet school is hard to get into, and is expensive. You are best off doing your undergraduate program for as little as possible.

As to deciding whether the OSU or ISU Animal Science program is better, you can look at the list of courses each department offers to find out if there are any differences between the programs. Don’t forget to compare what is offered in the graduate program, an elsewhere in the college of agriculture as well. You also should check the websites of the individual professors at each university, and find out what kind of research they are currently conducting.

I don’t know anything about the social situation at either university, so I can’t advise you there. However if you contact the two admissions offices, they will be happy to put you in touch with students from whatever demographic you are interested in knowing more about.

Good luck!

Used to be known as a good research Uni, but the right-wing crazy’s are making a mark.

OK also has Jim Inhofe, a Global Warming denier as a Sen, and Sally Kern a Christian Congressperson that wants to convert everyone in her state to her brand - and her brand only -of Christianity.

Per Doctoral Candidate Abbie Smith on her Science blog, called ERV, “A project to test anthrax vaccines and treatment on baboons was quashed by Oklahoma State University administrators because the primates would be euthanized.”

WARNING: Abbie pulls no punches, and is graphic in her descriptions! If you are offended by good old crisp Anglo Saxon terminology, do NOt click on the link.

If you are an adult and can handle adult language, seach OK on Abbie’s blog, and learn more about OSU and the trials and tribulations of trying to do science in present day OK.

Good Luck
