I am interested in engineering and, secondarily, agriculture/animal science. Between OSU and OU, which would be the better school for these programs? Does OSU have an honors program like OU's? Also, how do non-tuition costs and fees compare? Economically, which has the better program for NMF scholars? Thanks!

For the agriculture/animal science, OSU is probably slightly better than OU. Yes, OSU does have an honors program. I’m not too sure about the non-tuition costs and fees (I should probably figure out, I’m going to one of those too :P) I understand that OU gives out more money for NMF scholars.

Here’s the OSU honors college page: [Oklahoma State University - Stillwater - Home](http://www.okstate.edu/honors/applicationupdate.html)

Visited both and attend OU. I had a bio-systems engineering tour at OSU, which is kind of closely related to what you seem to be pursuing. Basically, OSU has the better program in agricultural areas since it’s the land-grant. Engineering programs are pretty similar, with perhaps a slight edge to OSU. OSU is much cheaper for NMF too. It’s like $3k a year out of pocket. OU is around $10k. OU’s honors program is likely stronger, I had a much better impression of the honors college at OU than OSU and I really like OU’s, now being a student there. If money is a constraint, OSU is definitely the best choice, but OU fit within my budget and it felt like a better fit, so here I am.

Any other questions, just ask, I’d love to be of help!

For anyone that got the NMF scholarship at OU, did you receive any additional non-need merit based aid?

OU just bumped the total NMF scholarship $15k.

KCTaxguy…my son was awarded a couple of non-need scholarships from OU that were not a part of the NM package. I think they totaled $2000 but are for freshman year only.

What part of the NM package was increased? I’m not seeing a change in their information online.

Thanks Soonermom. They added 1st year 1/2 housing at $4,500, Resident Tuition waiver is now 100% $10,000± bump, Technology allowance bumped to $2,000, and Travel Stipend is bumped to $2,000. Not sure when it will get updated on-line.

Wow! That’s a big bump, especially for OOS kids. I’m sorry my son didn’t graduate this year. LOL Thanks for the info.

BTW, my son loves OU. He is having a great experience.

^wow KCTaxguy—could you help clarify for me, according to [Non-Oklahoma Residents](http://www.ou.edu/content/go2/nationalmerit/non-oklahoma_residents.html)

it says that tuition is $2,000/year after waiving non-resident tuition and you say that the resident tuition waiver is now $10,000 per year an increase of $8,000 per year?

Or did I mis-understand?

The $10,000 bump is the sum of the 4 years increase. I learned this info at an OU sponsored NMSF “awards” dinner and they had jsut learned the day before of the changes. The non-resident value of the NMF scholarship was about $101k and it now $115k.

Yea for bump in NMF scholarship! I am also super pleased that OU is offering non-NMF merit scholarships as well. When my daughter was applying last year it was pretty much NMF or nothing for OOS. My younger daughter is low bubble for NMF (15) and I am happy that we can still consider OU and move forward, although OSU still offers more guaranteed $.
