So I'm practicing some BC free-response questions with old tests (from 1995 right now) that I found online. Does anyone know if calculators were used in the same way back then? Because the first 3 questions (which should be calculator), have stuff like "write but do not evaluate the integral", which makes me think that no calculator was provided back then.

The calculator rules changed a lot in the '90’s, as they really weren’t sure what to do with the technology. I know that in '93, only scientific calculators were allowed, but in '96 - '98, graphing calculators were allowed on all of the FRQ’s.

“Write but do not evaluate the integral” still happens frequently on the area/volume questions for both AB and BC, particularly when the integration procedures are relatively similar from one question to the next. It’s not really indicative of being calculator active or not.
