Does anyone have a .pdf of last year's columbia application? They're not posting this year's until August and I really won't have much time to work on my application after that, what with summer activities and schoolwork (IB program death). This way I'd at least be able to start thinking about it.

well, i don't have a pdf, but I seem to recall that Columbia asks for:

1) personal statement on ANYTHING (500 words)
2) a short answer (very short) on what about Columbia appeals to you (I think 75 words max)
3) a list of books you've read outside/inside school in the past year
4) newspaper/magazines you read
5) most meaningful activity (also very short)
6) and possibly...what you did for the past summer (i don't remember if that was columbia or other schools)

Thanks, phantom. That's all I needed.

Also: I'm a really avid reader, but do you think it'd just be annoying and irrelevant for me to post the 80+ books I'll have read by then? Should I just discuss my favorites instead?

Less is more.

but not too little - that just looks disinterested.

unstickytape, I still have the .pdf from last year. If you'd still like to have a look, just let me know.

Is this too much for the periodicals question? These are the newspapers/magazines I read on a daily/weekly basis, but I don't want to seem like a snob by listing too much.

The New York Times (www.nytimes.com)
The Christian Science Monitor (www.csmonitor.com)
The San Ramon Valley Herald
The Economist
The Nation (www.thenation.com)
The New Yorker (www.newyorker.com)

Should I remove the San Ramon Valley Herald? It's just my local paper, and poorly written at that.
