Old SAT v. New SAT

Do the big schools like HYPS, MIT, and Caltech allow for the old SAT instead of the new SAT. I am currently a junior and I really don't want to take the new SAT. I know I will probably have to take the SAT II Writing. Is there anything else I have to do?

Most schools accept both SATs for the graduating class of 2006 (current juniors).

However, be careful - a lot of schools "prefer" the new SAT, and some don't even accept the old SAT (Dartmouth, UCs, to name a couple).

I think the last writing SAT II is January. The new SAT will replace it.

HYPS? What's that?

Marilee Jones told us at a information session in September that this year would be a fudge year, so I take it that means to old SATs are okay, but I believe that MIT prefers the new SAT. Can't be sure though. All the UCs won't accept the old one.

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford.
Sorry, I should have specified that.

Check http://www.collegeboard.com/newsat/hs/require.html :all these schools ONLY WANT THE NEW SAT because they require writing; sadly, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton now all require new SAT from class of 2006!

But what if I take an SAT II: Writing with an old SAT. Will that be ok instead of a new SAT. That link was a little vague on that issue.

i would very strongly suggest that you take the new SAT at least once

Why?

Most juniors aren't as motivated as you and will only be taking the new test. To compare you with the rest of these applicants, it would be helpful if you gave scores for the new test.

All I know is that I do much better on the old one. Do those colleges that require a writing test REQUIRE the new SAT or do they allow SAT II: Writing with old SAT???

alot that say some combination of both will only require SAT with SAT II Writing--like Swat

check the common application

Some schools are willing to combine your best possible score from either test. You should definetely take the new one anyway, especially since the writing satII stops in January.

lol, HYPS, kinda goes along with all the HYPE that those schools get. btw, Harvard has the ugliest campus ive ever seen for such a hyped school. the other three HYPES are much, much nicer. ive seen em all, not that i have a chance of getting into any of them

everyone seems afraid of the new sat

i'm glad
more like PSAT, i'm good at writing

if you call the college, some accept the old SAT with the SAT II writing component... but both go away after january.
