Old School Never Processed Withdrawal

I am trying to transfer to a new university in my hometown. I was accepted for the summer just fine, but I could not go and had to reapply for the Fall. Fine. However, this time they said they needed a transcript from FAMU (which I had completely forgotten about). I told them I would get it, but the thing is I was not even sure I had one. I only went to FAMU for like 2 weeks and I withdrew before their set withdrawal date in 2009. I turned in the paperwork to the registrar's office and got a signed copy. End of story, right?

I called about the transcript and after (FINALLY) talking to someone about it (they acted like the could not find it for half an hour) I was told it was all Fs. This made no sense because I withdrew, they should have been Ws at the most. Then they tell me I never withdrew....

I have spent the last 5 days trying to get into contact with someone who can help me. Literally no one at that school answers their phone, and 80% just go to voicemail but their inboxes are full so you can't even leave a message. Everyone kept referring me to one woman who would not answer my calls and was literally never in her office even though everyone "had just talked to her 5 minutes ago." I left emails, voicemails, and had assistants leave actual paper messages for maybe 3 people, and not one of them called me back. I finally got in touch with the woman today and she tells me they do not recognize the registrar's signature on my copy of the Withdrawal Form that I faxed them. This is my fault how..? But I understand, and I do not want anyone to get in trouble over me.

I told her I understood if it was too many years too late to appeal it and asked for a short letter to my new school detailing the situation. She told me she would not write anything for me.

Bottom line: I did what I was supposed to do during my withdrawal, even made sure to get copies, and FAMU will do nothing for me even though it is THEIR FAULT that my paper either got lost or tossed out and I was never withdrawn. I NEED that letter or a proper transcript to register for school this semester. I cannot sit out a semester because of my scholarship, and I should not have to. School starts in like 3 weeks. What do I do?

Can you show your new school the completed, signed withdrawal paperwork, explain the situation, and ask if they really still need the transcript?

If they do, can you just give them the F-filled transcript so they can check the box?

Then you can try and go up the chain at FAMU to unravel this mess. Not sure who would be the appropriate person - Dean of Students, maybe? How far from you is FAMU? Sometimes showing up is the only way to get people to deal with you.

Thank you for your helpful suggestion.

I am working on getting the F transcript right now. My new school is trying to be helpful, but I do not think they will be able to overlook the GPA impact. I have maintained a 3.75 since I entered college and this will add 5 Fs to my record. My scholarship requires a 2.8, but I have once chance to stumble with them and get it back. I am just not sure how far those Fs will bring me down.

I live in Tennessee, so an unplanned trip to Florida is unfortunately very unlikely. I really wish I could go and politely give them a piece of my mind…

Can anyone else offer any suggestions? FAMU is telling me they will not render a transcript because I owe money for semesters I did not attend now. I don’t know what to do! Will I never be able to go to college again?

Did you talk to Sylvia Petties? She is the Exec. Asst. in the Office of Student Affairs, and the University Ombuds (here is a link explaining what her office does: <a href=“Page Not Found”>Page Not Found;

Her number is 859-599-3183.

Good luck!
