Older applicant transfer questions

I am a white male who currently attends a community college in New Jersey. I am currently 23 and want to transfer in for the Spring 2014 semester, which I will be 24 by then. I transferred out of Monmouth since 1) I could not afford it anymore, and 2) my grades were poor. I took a break for a few years to work since I was undeclared. I graduated high school in 2008 with a 3.0 GPA and a 1550 on my SAT's. I know all these stats are too low for the FSU, but I am doing well in my classes at Bergen Community College for Accounting so far, and I was wondering a few things:

Should I retake the SAT?
Should I take the ACT?
What would I have to get my GPA up to at BCC for 3 semesters to have a realistic shot at getting accepted (I had 5 classes transferred from MU to BCC)?
How important will my GPA at Monmouth and in high school be to the people who evaluate the applications?

Be honest and explain your opinion if you think I can/can't get in. Thank you to the people who took the time to read this and let me know what they think :]

I think SAT scores aren’t that important for a transfer student in your case. It might be considered, but not highly, as it is important for the entry of a college. Just get your A.A/A.S, raise up your GPA to at least a 3.1 or higher. I think accounting is part of the college of business is a limited access program, meaning you need a quite possibly have strong GPA, 3.25ish. Also, make sure you finish the accounting pre-req’s for FSU.

Since you haven’t gotten your AA yet, I assume you have maybe around 15 credit hours, which isn’t too late to boost up your GPA. Just do extremely well by getting nothing but A’s and B’s. My first semester at a CC, I ended up with a 2.67 with 15 hours, and by the time I graduated, where I took about 15 credits every semester, and 2 summer classes, with mostly B’s, a few A’s, and a couple C’s (damn you spanish and film class), I managed to get a 3.27 GPA. Just do very well, and I’m sure you will have no problem getting a higher GPA than that, along with your A.A. After that, you should be set!

MastuhDang is right. At this point your body work will be more important than your standardized test scores. Boost that GPA a bit and you should be in the clear.

What matters is the number of credit hours that you will have at the start of the semester you’re applying for at FSU.

If you have 61+, then they won’t look at anything but your college transcripts and the like. If it’s under 60, they also look at your high school stuff like your SAT scores. This is why it is highly recommended that anyone looking to transfer to FSU gets their AA degree, because it is so much easier to transfer.

Dude with your grades neither Florida nor Florida State will take you wake up and smell the roses
