Older edition study guides

Are the older edition study guides (eg. a 2nd edition from 2000 vs a 5th edition from 2010) significantly worse for AP exam preparation? Or is it just Barron/Princeton Review etc 's marketing tactict to get us to buy new study guides rather than used ones?

It’s OK to get an older edition. Most of the time, “newer” editions of a book simply have a redesigned cover.
