Older than average

I spent two years in the Navy following high school graduation. Will be starting college hopefully on September of 2007, at age 20. Any liberal arts colleges or private universities where I wouldn't feel too out of place? So far been considering NYU and Rutgers. I've heard Marlboro is a good LAC for my situation, but it's way too small for my comfort. No women's colleges please, I'm a boy.

dwincho,
I can understand that you will have more world experience then many of the freshman, but two years is really not that big of a difference to start looking for certain colleges. My son will be 19 when he starts in the fall. Some kids will have gone to pre-first, like my son, or their parents will have held them back for a year, or some will have had birthdays right after the cut-off, and some will have taken a gap year. Really, I don't think it should be a concern.

The average undergraduate college student in the United States today is 24.5. So while many of the "prestige" colleges discussed on this list have younger student bodies, they are in fact the anomalies, and your situation is much closer to the average.

I faced this issue as well. I joined the air force right after high school and was entering college at the ripe old age of 21 (as a girl). I went to UT Austin undergrad, in part because its large size assured me of many older students. Worked out great. I did not feel in the least out of place.

dwincho- I'm currently at a very small LAC and have a number of friends who started college at 20 (for a variety of reasons). They don't seem to be having any problems whatsoever fitting in, if any they seem to be doing better than the majority of students!

..just from the way you've phrased your post...I'm not sure you realize that Rutgers is a state U.

A university's definition of 100% of need and yours are likely to be two different things.
