Son is trying to decide on college. He got an amazing offer from Ole Miss and he liked the campus. My question is if it would be a good fit. We are from NJ and we are culturally Jewish but atheist. Due to the distance he would have to fly home, so he could only return for breaks, not weekends. On the plus side, he loves SEC football and basketball, so he wants a sporty school. Greek life seems important there, but it kind of seemed like rush occurred over the summer when he would still be in NJ. So any advice as to if northeastern kids fit in well would be great
Bama would be much better fit a Jewish student. Much much better. And they have strong aid and you can still apply. They have 1k Jews. Even Ms State would be better.
Ole Miss…a Jew coming from the NE will be a huge culture shock. He will be one of few.
My daughter sought Jewish life and is at Charleston. My son goes to Bama. Is not involved but he’s glad it’s there as we live in suburban Nashville and it’s all bible belty. That will be Ole Miss except it will be worse.
Good luck.
