We live in Louisiana and it astounded me to find out that Louisiana only has two schools that offer pharmacy degrees. We started to look around and Ole Miss is the closest school that also offers a pharmacy program. Can anyone tell me if this is a good program and what are the scholarships offered to attend Ole Miss? Louisiana offers TOPS (tuition assistance for good ACT scores and grades) which helps out a lot and my son couldn't attend without a similar scholarship assisstance to Ole Miss.

Well, we would need to know your son’s GPA and test scores. And, how much can you pay each year?

It isn’t unusual for a state to only have 2 pharm schools. Often only more-populated states have more.

BTW…you child doesn’t have to attend an undergrad that has a PharmD program.

Ole Miss is well regarded for pharmacy and has good merit scholarships available for OOS kids with high numbers.

You can look at South Carolina. They have a 6 yr PharmD program. The scholarships that an incoming freshman get are good for 4 years so they are good for the first two years of pharmacy schools so that is very helpful.

@mom2collegekids If you want to get your PharmD in 6 years it is helpful to be at a university the first two years that has a 6 year program. The kids that are students at the university have a leg up all things being equal.

Excellent pharmacy program. Lots of research there also if that’s what you’re wanting.

Son took ACT once as sophmore to see what it was like and got a 28, he will take again junior/senior year. We think he will probably end up with 33-34. He takes honors and AP classes, I think unweighted gpa is 3.7. We will visit Ole Miss this spring and possible other schools to start narrowing his college search but a lot will depend upon scholarships.
