I potentially have the opportunity to complete a semester exchange in the fall of next year, and have circled Ole Miss as a potential university I’d consider attending. I live and study in Melbourne, Australia and my university has an exchange connection with Ole Miss. I’m a big college football fan and love watching Ole Miss football, but I also love watching and following American sports. As I live in Australia, I obviously cannot the visit the campus and have little knowledge about what it’s like living in Oxford and studying at Ole Miss (I study exercise science for reference). I’m also a bit nervous about the social aspect of it all, as I’ll be in a completely new environment on my own. Just want peoples thoughts on whether I should pick Ole Miss and why or why not. I’m 19 and a male.
Several years ago a UK student wrote a long article in one of the major British papers about spending most of a year at Ole Miss. He enjoyed it. I’ve tried to find the story with Google, but can’t.
I’m inclined to say you would like it. The downtown bar district is within walking distance of the campus, and there are a few off-campus places you can stay where you wouldn’t need a car. Don’t know if that’s an issue, but sometimes it is for people out of the country.
Its an interesting university…classic American public football university, but with enough idiosyncracies to give it its own identity. I like that the enrollment & campus are smaller than other similar universities (Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida State, Louisiana State).
Our punter on the football team is a junior from Melbourne Australia. Obviously he enjoys it. I will have 2 kids next year there. Oxford is a great town with shops and upscale restaurants. The kids on campus are very welcoming. You will love it. The athletic facilities are great. New basketball arena, football stadium was expanded, baseball stadium is being upgraded, new student workout facility being built, great golf course etc.
