So I'm looking to study economics in college and was wondering which of these programs is stronger. Notre Dame is ranked #1 for business overall but I'm not sure if that necessarily carries over to Econ. WashU is ranked higher nationally as a school so I'm wondering if that helps their Econ program. All other things aside, which looks better for grad school and/or job placement?

I don’t mean to sound snarky, but are you in HS? If you’re in HS, choose a college based on their undergrad program. Although my son applied to and got into both WashU and Notre Dame, these two are very different colleges. He ultimately decided he felt more comfortable at WashU.

Think about what grad schools look for when you’re applying to grad school. Who knows? Maybe you won’t be an Economics major after all. Besides, not many students stick with the same college for undergrad and grad. You really need to prioritize your list based on the school itself, not a particular major and definitely not on what graduate schools admissions does.

Sorry, I meant when applying to grad school at a different college. Like which degree looks better, all other variables aside…olin or mendoza

They both look fine. Seriously, these rankings are arbitrary and should be taken with a grain of salt. Grad schools don’t really care about the “name” or what degree looks better. They’re more interested in your grades and test scores. I’m going to agree with limabeans and say that you should base your list of schools on which ones you would be comfortable and “see yourself at”.

Economics as a major isn’t even offered through Olin at Wash U…do research before posting

Marc, yes it is.

Economics is offered through both artsci and the bschool.

Yes but the economics department in Olin offers like 5-6 courses, compared to the 30+ in Artsci. When one things of economics at Wash U they think of Artsci not Olin
