Olsen twins

The entire NYU student body who has seen them agrees.

how often do nyu students even see mary kate and ashley?

i dunno, i suppose not that much considering they'd get mobbed.

They Got In Because They Are Famous!!! Famous People Can Get In Anywhere They Want> Why Do You Think So Many Famous People Go To Ivy Leagues And Such Great Schools? Its Because The Schools Want To Be In The Media!

In all fairness, running a billion dollar company has got to count for something in the EC department and is certainly going to make you stand out in the applicant pool.

yea i mean how else would hilary duff get into harvard. on top of that the olsen twins are major entrepreneurs. i mean that has to count for something.

hillary duff is in the harvard extension school. she takes online classes and stuff, you don't really need to be smart to do it.

still... these guys completely murder us in the EC department... they are also showing that they are learning for the sake of knowing (or they are prestige whores) because they've got the job and the money adn the success already.

I agree...the Olsen twins should definitely get more credit...most child stars are complete burnouts (e.g Gary Coleman and the cast of "Different Strokes"). I think its pretty arrogant to say they got in just becuase they were famous (who here even knows their grades or test scores?), and the fact that they run a business empire puts them far above any average 18 year old in the elite college admissions game. Natalie Portman (Harvard) is also supposedly very smart as well.

Hillary Duff on the other hand is a moron, she goes to Harvard Extentsion (analogous to School of Continuing Ed. at NYU-the signs for this are often seen on the NY subways) not the real undergrad. Anyone can enroll at Harvard Extension.

i agree with jwblue, and also, i think it's sad that child stars [especially ones like mary kate & ashley, who are still pretty famous] probably could never get the same college experience that the rest of us could...i'm sure it's difficult and especially annoying when you are walking to class/in class and people are either in love with you or hate you, which i'm sure they express immediately, ALL THE TIME, and make bad "full house" references...you could never live in dorms, because your room would probably get broken into and your stuff sold on ebay or kept for bragging rights, it would be difficult for you to make college friends, because you wouldn't know if people like you just because you're famous or to say things to their friends like "yo i hung out with THE OLSEN TWINS last night" and totally overexaggerate everything that happened...

idk, in one sense, mary kate has made a bad name for herself with the whole eating disorder thing, but in no way does that impair either of their abilities to go to school...but, i've heard that they rarely show up for class [idk how true that is], which would anger me as an NYU student...i PERSONALLY dislike their association with NYU for the reason that everytime people find out i'm going there, they ask if i'm gunna hang out with the olsen twins, and it's annoying, haha :P

I think people who try to say that the Olsens aren't smart or Hilary Duff isn't smart is just trying to make themselves feel better. If you really think they aren't anything, then why don't YOU try being them? Why don't YOU show everybody how smart YOU are? Let's say you are going to Stern, so presumably, you are going to go into business. Well, after you graduate, I think it wouldn't surprise anyone if you were to work

FOR

the Olsens. They have their line of perfume, clothe, etc... They are ALREADY multimillionares in business. What is the purpose of you going to Stern? So you can one day grow up and make money? So you can hopefully against all hope, PERHAPS, and this is not even garauntee since the % are so low, that you MIGHT become a CEO and run a corporation. But the Olsen twins ALREADY have their company. They are WAAAAAAAAAY ahead of the games than any of us here. WHY are they famous? They are not just famous for FULLHOUSE.... theres a bunch of other burntout child stars... what about that guy from Smart Guys's? He's doing alright, but can one honestly say any childstar can match up to the Olsen twins? They were lucky that they had a fortunate start with fame, but its ultimately also their hardwork that pushed them this far. Look how old J.Lo is... even though she has her own line and everything, look how young the Olsen twins are... and look how far they are in life. People who try to trash celebrities are just people who are jealous that they can't buy walk down the red carpet or ride in a limo everyday...

For goodness sake, I bet at least 90% of you undergrades, your

PARENTS

are paying for your tuition. I got a near fullride, so honestly all I need is to pay for my personal expenses, and I can do that. How many of you can say, "I DON'T NEED MY PARENTS TO PAY FOR MY EDUCATION?"

Has any of you ever had a parttime job, or even maybe a fulltime job???? If so, you KNOW how hard it is to keep up with school whiel you work. Being an actress and run their own company is ALREADY a fulltime job. We have to give them a looooooootttt more credit. In our mind, we think, "Oh, I have to study for APs, or a test, or something, so I can't watch the Oscars tonight. Maybe I'll tape it." What about the Olsens? They have to think, "Oh I think I'll do a little geometry on the plane ride to the Oscars."

We are all mediocres compared to how hard they have to work.

! !

Hahaha I can't believe this discussion is still going on!

I'll just say, I'm not the biggest fan of the Olsen sisters.. but I have to give it to them.. they are smart, business-savvy young women. They have achieved a LOT for their age..
And they are the richest teenagers in the world... You have to at least give them that..
I respect them, I think that they are excellent entrepreneurs.
The fact that they're even pursuing that undergrad degree is also impressive.. I mean they don't TECHNICALLY need to right? They're already financially secure and they have a job too..

It's funny how the topic of celebs + well-known university causes so much debate, discussion, speculation etc. etc..

there was no need to drop the PARENTS card and juggling school, a part time job and varsity sports while still maintaining a 4.0 is not as difficult as you make it seem.

seriously, and only people who financially qualify can get full-rides.. and thats not to say that you are smarter than any of them, kandy.

yeah, we dont give marykate and ashley enough credit, mainly because we are all jealous, and wish we were as rich and successful as they are at their age.

yeah, kandy, and trying to talk about "parents" is unnecessary, considering the fact that unless you are emancipated for a certain amount of time, colleges/the government EXPECT your parents to pay for your education to a certain extent, which is why THEIR INCOME factors into the FAFSA...

-katrina-

just wondering.....are there any other celebrities who go to nyu?

the parent thing is to make you think... oh hey@! i actually need to give the olsen twins more credit since they apparantly have absolutely NO dependency on their parents whatsoever financially... heck they probably GIVE their parents money

fullrides are not always associated with FAFSA.... they make you take out loans no matter what when you fill out FAFSA... i mean come on... read other people's packages... how many of nyu students get nearfullrides because purely of FAFSA?

most people have a wee bit of discresion.

but i can see why you made your point about mk and ashley... it was just a bit pompous.
