Olympiads!

I’d advise you to stay out of what doesn’t concern you. This is our personal matter.

PS: You can’t “pay your way through the process”. So you’ve decided that I’m saying that ‘admissions is a sham’ . I’d love to know how in the world you extrapolate to such an extent to reach to all these conclusions lol.
Full pay internationals get preference over full aid internationals. Got it? It’s an indisputable fact.
“So it can be possible to earn your place respectfully in top unis.”. Like, duh ??

Whatever. I tire of this conversation.

P.S. if it’s personal…than perhaps you should discuss this privately…not in a forum where the OP’s question is completely out of consideration.
Putting words in my mouths, and moulding them to make new meaning out of them…I’m moving to the next forum.

You just described what you did in post 40 to me. And worst thing is, you don’t even realize it. :/

PS: Just noticed your edit. No it’s not personal. I don’t even know you. I don’t know why I’m picking on someone new.
I just don’t like it when someone assumes that he’s the only one who can think sensibly and the rest of the audience is composed of idiots who’d love to hear some good advice, I guess.
OPs question was out of consideration long ago. This often happens here. Lol. Welcome to CC/India forum.

^ I’m not aware of that well known fact actually. But I was referring to “paying yourself through” in the way that some parents–grandparents–and even far back in the generation, help fund for an institution by donation. In exchange, these ppl assume they have some added advantage over the rest. Now all this has been discussed in the ivy league forum, so I’m sure you can just search for it. I’m not oblivious that this doesn’t occur…and I’m not stupid to think otherwise. Now whether this works out for them or not…who knows. For all I know, financial need does not affect you at some unis. However, I just don’t see why you are draggin in this financial need thing into the talk when the OP is asking for International Olympiads.

like we’re even talking legacy donations here. Those are very few cases that are far and in between. PD wasn’t talking about legacy. We’re talking normal full pay internationals.
What sort of international are you lol not even knowing this much?
I already told you. Other than HYPD and Amherst that don’t count …ugh I’m outta here.

If a need aware policy is directed and influences admissions, the college says that in bold face letters…
I required full scholarship, and my uni helped me get it. The full need did not affect me, and it shouldn’t have.

^Yeah. ALL colleges except (groan) HYPDA SAY that in those BOLD letters of yours.
Wow. Please don’t go advising other needy internationals. They’d probably cry tears of blood once the process is over. You don’t see to have even the slightest clue about the financial aspect of admissions.
*** am I doing back here? :(

lol you’re going to get me to post 50 soon. But i’ll just say that you are wise and you have plenty of good advices to give. Could you help the OP out perhaps? It would be awesome if you could. :)

Just logged in. wow!

Hey Livulife, tone it down man. pixie is right and she knows this well. So, listen to her carefully. Alright?

As pixie said, we all liked your initial posts on India forum but now you are beginning to show you ignorance and annoy us. Please do some research before engaging.

I think we should stop this thread and calm down.

Livulife, welcome to India forum!

^^His question has already been answered by more than one person.
I havta go, I have an exam to take which i haven’t started yet. I remain the worst procrastinator ever. :(

^ Placement test? Good luck!

^Thank you. :)

Pixie, I actually pretty much agree with everything in your post (btw you didn’t need to be that harsh :(). I’ll try to respond more fully via PM a bit later. :)

Good luck on your tests. You guys don’t have them during orientation?

Edit: Just wanted to respond to the following as well:

I literally LOL’ed at this. :D

^ No, not you again.

You had to rub it in? Says a lot about you.

Maxi, please disappear. This is none of your business.

^^ LOL, all of a sudden the attention span increases!

:(

That ‘attention span’ comment was a joke. Admittedly, a dumb one, much like myself.

I’m just a moron who got into a decent school only because I could pay the fees. Therefore, I would advise you to ignore my posts; they’re absolute garbage, and not worth anyone’s time.

Ok, I am stopping my rant. No more personal stuff on CC.

Peace

Suppose, when you apply, will you list this type of achievement (i.e. Representing India at an international Olympiad, but not winning anything) as an international achievement or a national one? This might sound silly…but it is not quite. Most people would think that it is a national achievement as one did not win anything at the international level. But its much more than that…I mean even a person who gets a good rank in the IMO conducted by SOF would list his achievement as international (which actually is not)…

indian2011: You’ve answered your own questions. You needn’t explain that you didn’t win anything (that is assumed if you don’t list a placement). You are right that ppl do put semifinalists if they don’t place in the national team because to be honest…that is an achievement as well. Prestige depends country to country (if you like to consider it that). For example, X country has super competitive rounds for qualification; whereas, Y country is just starting around the curve to getting itself involved in the olympiad event. In that way, being an SOF for a certain country that is well known in the event is very impressive.
