I am SO MAD that poor Katie Hoff got beaten by some gal from Britain by .07 seconds!!!!

But did you just seeee Jason Lezak? SO amazing!

i know somebody on the usa women's softball team..its pretty exciting..so i'll probably end up watching it

so sad about laure, the french swimmer. those italian bastards cheat in every sport.

Did anyone notice that the Australian guy broke the WR in the 100 meter free going out in the relay? It kind of got lost in the excitement over the US winning. So it was a double defeat for Alain Bernard. That's what he gets for trash talking.

^ Yup. What an amazing relay...

I wish the US didn't have to face Angola on Tuesday, though.

men's relay swimming=awesome. I was looking forward to that race all day, lol.

men's swimming tomorrow too 200M freestyle I think?
Park TaeHwan marine boy fighting ><!! (lol konglish ftw) I think phelps is going to be in this one too. >< this is going to be amazing no matter who winss
It's funny how Korea won the -65kg judo gold medal but will probably lose alot of the the taekwondo ones... oh wells.

Oh yeah, is it just me who think the little beijing mascots are ADORABLE? haha

PS. Urgh i just found out the next hosting cities for next summer and winter olympic and kinda wish they would stop hosting it in the SAME countries. Kinda unfair for the other candidate countries.. :/ though its cool Russia's hosting the next next winter olympic for the first time! (surprised it never done it before..)

the US relay team was SO CRAZY
my roommate and i were out of our seats screaming
i love the olympics it is just so awesome

Vancouver is definitely 2010...
It's all I heard about when I visited last summer.
(I personally think the mascot is adorable).

note the NEXT NEXT. its the 2014 one that i'm talking about.
I know UK and canada hosted it like.. 2-3 times. (Least Canada changes cities... UK keeps on doing it in London..) I thought it was a lil unfair on the countries that never done it before :/ But glad russia's finally doing it :D

man i want a lil plush of all the beijing olympic characters lol I have a feeling they made 5 characters not only because of the olympic sign, but also because they can sell 5 times more product.

I can't wait for track, it starts this Friday. The 110 hurdles final is probably going to be the biggest single event of the olympics.

"Urgh i just found out the next hosting cities for next summer and winter olympic and kinda wish they would stop hosting it in the SAME countries."

Realistically, how many countries are capable of holding the Olympics? You either need a solid infrastructure (or enough money to build a solid infrastructure) to support the influx of people, on top of the large amounts of money it takes to build all the facilities and run the whole show. It took Montreal 30 years to pay off the debt from hosting the Olympics. Barcelona is still paying off 1.2 billion from 1992. Sydney needs to pay about $32 million a year for a decade to pay off their debt. Greece went 9-12 billion in the hole (they planned on only spending about 1 billion, pre-9/11). They were planning on the debt being offset by increased tourism in the area (like what happened in Barcelona), but that's not going nearly as well as expected (9/11 security increases and gas prices are bad for international tourism).

My friend made the semi-fnals in the 200 IM!! :D:D She's seated last, but I can't believe she made it!!

Thanks for pointing that out, Lethargy! A lot of things were overlooked in that race. The French also swam darn well, but it was Lezak who made that lunge towards the end that caused the US to beat the French by .08 seconds and to break the World Record by 4 seconds.

I'm very impressed by the number of women competing who are well over 20. Dara Torres (41 or so) and then there's another gymnast (who is competing for Germany) who is 33 years old! Uh-maaaze-ing.

^Oksana Chusovitina is the German gymnast you're talking about. She's 33 and has a kid. Not only that, but she qualified for the vault finals and has a decent shot at medaling.

...and I complain about being too old for the sport. She's just completely amazing.

But yeah- I couldn't breath during the last 50 of the men's 4x100 swimming last night.

Phelps is a GOD! Another WR.. 3 down, 5 more WRs to break.

On another note.. GO CHINA!

the swimming relay was awesome...

in other news, China broadcasts fake fireworks created by computer graphics worldwide during the opening ceremony
Part of Olympic display altered in broadcast - Gadgets - MSNBC.com

The Olympics are pretty much just amazing.

I'm mostly watching Gymnastics, Beach Volleball, and any other random sports that I otherwise don't get a chance to watch.

Phelps got yet another gold in the 200 free, and Natalie Coughlin a gold in the backstroke, and Aaron Piersol a gold in the backstroke.

Kerri Walsh and Misty May beat Cuba in beach vollyball! The Chinese were also, once again, amazing with synchro diving and gymnastics.

I'm actually really proud that the US men's gymnastics team got a bronze medal. Especially with 2 alternates and Paul Hamm/brother out.
