OMFG thanks everyone!!

Congratulations bearcats. I'm sure I don't have to tell you to enjoy your acceptance. ;) I wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors.

Congratulations--that's great news! All things come to those who wait.

Congrats bearcats! CBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBCB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

*Note: CB=Congrats Bearcats!

CONGRATS BEARCATS!!! ^_^ thats very impressive- my friend got in too for ED and he was talking about how this is one of those schools that you turn down harvard for or something... :D

again, congrats. you definitely deserved it! :)

thanks everyone. A shocker i know, but i m choosing Michigan's Ross school of business over wharton, simply becoz I really love michigan, i know i will fit there, and i want a real college life. plus mich offered me merit scholarship.

I'm glad you found somewhere that you want to go to, then. What do your parents think of your decision?

MICHIGAN? The Wolverines?!?!

Please be sure to hear my laughing at your misery as the Fightin' Irish inflict mortal wounds on your pansified football team these next four years.

Bearwho?

bearcats,

Ross is a great school, but it's not for freshman, is it? I thought you could apply in high school or freshman year in university and attend as a sophomore.

Out of curiosity, what do you want to do after Ross?

thanks lovemeister, will i be able to find love at mich??

d'yer ...dream on

jonathan- ya... i got into Ross preadmit, which guarantees me a spot at Ross unless i completely tank freshman year. and obviously i wanna go into the business field after ross. :)

Did somebody post something? There's seems to be a disturbance in the ether...something faint, almost lifeless....

...nah...I've lost all connectivity. Sorry. It's nothing.

bearcats -- Before you completely finalize your decision, please give it a little more time. Consider that Wharton was at the top of your list the last time I saw it. Before the life of Burb Parent, I was in the MBA world in the northeast. The name "Wharton" can open many doors in this geography, especially in the financial field. To me, name recognition is not so important except in your terminal degree for a chosen profession. If you plan to go on to an MBA, then it won't matter which undergrad you get between your 2 excellent choices. University of Michigan is well respected too, but just doesn't have the same name recognition in this geography.

I've never been to Ann Arbor, but I've always heard about how lovely it is. However, I have been in Midwestern winters, and they can be brutal... much colder than the northeast.

Anyway, if you are completely certain that Darrow is the school for you, then congratulations! If you are uncertain, as you might be (given that Wharton was your #1 choice), then give it few more weeks of thought. You spent so much time envisioning yourself at Michigan while Penn was a distant dream. Give yourself a little time to see yourself at Penn. And discuss it with your parents, advisor, etc.

Bearcats, I'm a Penn alum (not Wharton though), so I'm prejudiced. But I agree with what several other posters have said. Wharton is the top undergrad business school and will open a lot of doors for you. It will also do a great job of preparing you for the business world.

I'm also a little puzzled by your comment about wanting to go to Mich. so you have a life at college. You can definitely have a great 4 years at Penn, with an active social life. Plus those winters in Mich. are awfully long and cold.

And of course, Pennsylvania is one of the islands of the Bahamas. ;)

I'll agree with Burb Parent about taking your time on the decision and that ultimately your choice of school should look at what you want to do after your undergraduate time is done.

That being said, I will disagree about the weather assessment of SE Michigan, having lived there for 14 years myself. As midwestern areas go, SE Michigan gets the least snow and has the most moderate temperatures of any of the major cities in the midwest.

The dominant winter cold weather pattern brings down Alberta clippers southeastwards across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois, warming as they move south and then turning over Ohio and heading Northeast crossing into SE Michigan.

Add to this that SE Michigan is not downwind of any of the great lakes (the wind never blows from the SE from Lake Erie), and you get much less snow than anyplace within 200 miles.

That being said, the dominant weather pattern does tend to lead to high cloudiness, also known as "gray gloom" that can be quite depressing. While I lived there, I learned that Detroit has more cloudy days a year than Seattle.

That gray gloom also keeps the heat in at night, which doesn't happen as much over the windy areas of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois, so the low temperatures in Detroit are generally 5 to 10 degrees warmer than Chicago (for example).

I also lived in SE Wisconsin for 3 years and can definitely testify that the winters there are much colder than Detroit's.

By a "real college experience" the DEAD-TO-ME poster means that the football team plays in front of 105,000 fans on Saturday afternoons and they wave their arms in unison during their fight song as if to emulate something you might have seen in a 1920's German beer hall political rally...and that he'll have to defend his football coach's whining after the team loses to Notre Dame. Good times!

"if you are completely certain that Darrow is the school for you"
what's darrow

i guess i still hav another 3 weeks to decide, thanks for the advice

btw, did you-know-who say something?

I got my wires crossed. Well, it's a kind of demonstration of the lower name recognition in these parts. I meant to write "Ross" and not "Darrow."

What's his name was talking about the Big 10 football frenzy in the Midwest. It's true! I've witnessed cities totally decked out in team colors if that team is going to a bowl game. They don't even know the names of the players, but everyone gets into the spirit. You won't find that level of interest in college football in the northeast.

Mich. football may be great, but how can you not love a football team whose mascot is the "Fighting Quaker"?:)

I think the mascot should be banned. Very insulting and demeaning to Quakers. The Fighting Quaker should share the same burial ground with Chief Illiniwek, mascot of the Fighting Illini who was retired a month or so ago.

What's more...wolverines the world over are mocked and disgraced by the University of Michigan prancing around after stealing their identity.

Wait...is that really their mascot? That makes no sense whatsoever if it is.
