OMG Has anyone seen Tulane's new %of applicants admitted number?!!

It's 27% on collegeboard. I understand that there may have been a lot more applicants this year and maybe they got more selective but from about 50% to 27%? I just really can't believe it. To those of you who have gotten in, congratulations, and to those of you who haven't gotten a letter of acceptance/rejection, like myself, it's not looking too good. I turned in my application Jan.5 anyone know when I should get a letter? Or if I should have gotten one by now?

I just checked my status on their website and it said pending review. So I guess I should get a reply in the next two weeks.

They started spamming every student in the country and since the app is free and easy, a lot of people applied just for the heck of it. When the acceptance rate went from 44 to 27%, the number of people who applied more than doubled.

OMG! THAT'S SO CRAZY!
I was expecting it to be somewhere in the 30s, but 27???? I am so glad I got in.

Did the SAT range also get a big boost? I think it did. Wow, I'm starting to like Tulane more and more.

Can anyone who's gotten accepted compare my stats with their's so I can see what chance I have of getting in? Thanks.
GPA: 3.8

Writing-610
Top 10 %

HMF123 - I would think that based just on stats and classes you are taking your chances are good. Of course can't see your essay and recs, and you don't mention EC's.

ECs
Leo Club
National Honor Society
Student Council
Club Med
Freshmen Execs
I never got to see my recs b/c you're not supposed look, although I know a lot of kids do anyways. But I know they were good since the teachers I asked love me. Essay was good IMO. I chose the issue of cultural diversity and described the challenges I've overcome with a diverse background: korean/iranian. The biggest reason I'm so worried is b/c I know a lot of people who applied RD already got letters of acceptance/rejection and since I didn't really apply last minute...10 days before deadline, I'm anxious.
I also got a 3 on AP english lang exam, and a 5 on the AP U.S. history exam (the best thing that ever happened in my academic career).

Well, I like your chances. It might not hurt to find out who the admit officer is for your region and send an e-mail just asking (as a pretense, really) if they got your first semester grades and then just reiterate how much you would love to attend. Have you visited? That helps too.

Is the admit officer the same as the admission counselor? If so then I know who to email.

You have to ask to get an answer! Never be afraid to ask. Anyway, it looks like you can check your admit status online: Tulane Admission: Check Your Application Status

And there is a place to find your counselor:
Tulane Admission: Meet Your Counselor

yours is Alex Lockett alockett@tulane.edu

Hope that helps!

Thanks! I've sent an email :)

BTW, wasn't that 27% number for last year's cycle? I'd assume that the College Board hasn't updated it yet, but who knows...

EDIT: did some Googling, and yup, that acceptance rate was for last year. I'd assume this year's acceptance rate will be considerable closer to 20% (or less, but that's unlikely).

When I applied to Tulane I remember the acceptance rate being around 44%, and everywhere else I've checked besides collegeboard has this statistic, I just checked collegeboard yesterday and it's 27%. I'm pretty sure that this 27% is due to the number of applicants that applied this year from what people are saying, I know that the percentage couldn't have been 27% b/c then I would have had doubts about acceptance even before I applied.
Just found on wikipedia:
Admission statistics
2009 undergraduate applications: 40,000[33]
2009 freshman class size: 1,400[33]
SAT scores (middle 50%): 1880–2150[33]
ACT scores (middle 50%): 28–32[33]
Average SAT/ACT: 1365/31
Acceptance rate: 27%[33]
75% of Tulane's student body comes from more than 500 miles (800 km) away.
Also checked the 2009 edition of best national universities etc. at Barnes and Noble yesterday which gave Tulane an acceptance rate of 27% for this year.

Just checked- the 27% acceptance rate was for last year-
Tulane Admission: Getting Into Tulane

The 2009 books were all published in 2008- it's the way it goes for several yearly publications- almanacs, encyclopedias, college books, etc.

In all likelihood, the 44% acceptance rate occurred two years ago.

I'm seriously doubting if I'll get in now. I checked the link kansasdemocrat put and while my SAT math and reading scores are in the clear, my writing score is lower than the middle 50%. I seriously think I'm getting rejected now. If I'd known that Tulane was getting so many applicants I would have applied early action. Also, this is irrelevant but I seriously think that I should stop going on college confidential so much, my friend calls it crack confidential b/c she thinks it's my crack addiction.

"Well, I like your chances."

Hey hmf, have a little faith! I like your chances too. Your Math and Critical Reading scores are 1390, your teachers love you, you did well with your APs, etc. What's not to like? IMHO the SAT writing score is the LEAST important item that goes in your application packet.

Good luck to you.

Nephew got rejected last year. Very disappointed because he wanted to come back to New Orleans. But he applied late, bad case of senioritis. Could have been a case of early bird gets the worm.

Again, at the expense of making me seem kind of ridiculous: OMG!!! LAST YEAR'S?
HOLY CRAP!

Okay, this officially makes me sooooo happy, like, uuunbeliavably happy. I love Tulane more, now. Okay, okay, okay; I'm soooo excited! I'm so freaking excited! Awww, I love Tulane, now : )

Markos - Enthusiasm is a good thing. Enjoy!
