If you’re a premed, I’d definitely recommend Calculus. Out of the schools that have Math reqs, there are many that will take either calc or stats, but some will take only calc. If you’re decent at Math, I’d go for the calc.

At least for me, my goal in fulfilling pre reqs for med school is to give myself as many options as possible, so that way if I find a school I really like, I won’t kick myself for not having taken a semester of biochem or a semester (or two even) of calculus.

Can I take biology in my second semester? I read somewhere that it is recommended for pre-meds to take 2 sciences or 1 science and 1 math for first semester.

You really need two years of biology. Some require it, some don’t, but AFAIK 2 years of bio is standard. Yes you can take it later, but if you start later, you have to take the MCAT later, which could mean applying later, which could mean being a year late and having a gap year. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just something to keep in mind.

Personally, I’d take both bio and chem first year. It’s a lot easier to fit in a math class either spring semester or soph year, because you can probably do with just one semester of calculus. Or you can take Math instead of a soc. sci. course. I was going to do that (bio, chem, and calc) but decided I want to study abroad and so I needed to start a language now, so I’m taking French instead of cal, because I can either take that next semester, or next year.
