I by accident submitted my common application as my Yale supplement and vice versa. I created a new version to correct the problem, but it says not to make school specific common applications. It was a honest mistake and now I don't know if I'm breaking the rules somehow..

I submitted my supplement essay in my common app essay spot.
I submitted my common app essay in the supplement spot.

(I mixed them up by accident because Yale has an open ended question for there submission)

I created a new version to correct the problem and put the right common app essay, but now I feel like I’m breaking the rules somehow, but I just honestly put them in the wrong spots.

just delete the old files and upload the right essays? if you submitted your application/supplement to Yale already, then im sorry, there isn’t anything you can do. you can’t fix what you turned in. if you have not submitted your application/supplement to Yale, then you can just upload the right essays again.

I’d say call the admissions office when you know that they’re open and explain what you did. I’m sure they’ll get a kick out of it, but otherwise not penalize you for it. They know people make mistakes.

I have already submitted. I am so anxiety filled. Will this effect at all my chances at other schools if they somehow find out? Or would this only effect Yale?

Just create a different version and upload the right essay. I ended up with several versions because I wanted to use different essays for different schools.

As for Yale, call them in a few days and explain what happened. No big deal.

Wait… so you SHOULDN’T use separate versions to upload common app essays that are written for specific schools? Do common app essays have to be general as to not mention/address any specific college?

^The Common App doesn’t want you to. I used two different essays for my 7 schools. If you do use specific essays the schools won’t know. No big deal.
