P.S. A hard copy of the above was mailed to you today.

Thanks you guys!! i am so stunned right now. i went home and saw something in my email, and thought it was an application status update or something but then this!

Wow, this is confusing. I thought they didn’t start reviewing until march. So although they have RD deadline, they started reviewing apps if the apps were sent earlier?
I am not trying to be a killjoy but I am confused.

they were away on vacation until Jan 4th so they started getting everything together and then began to read. I guess you were one f the first ones they read. does anyone know if they send out likely letters for columbia college students or just engineering?

to lifegr: how do you expect them to read +25k apps and start in March? and even if they begin reviewing candidates now, it doesn’t mean that she is admitted, just that she is a likely candidate for admission. as columbia explains the process, all applicants are read

last year students were receiving likely letters throughout the winter, my guess is that adcoms nominate students as they read them. which also means a) not everyone admitted can receive a likely letter to at least secure some of its importance, b) not everyone admitted can receive just based on the luck of the draw in terms of when they submit their application.

congratulations to pigs at sea. they think you’d be a great match for columbia. feel free to PM me with any questions.
