OMG i'm in:) likely letter!!

Quick question:
I applied to SEAS and got a likely letter, but my school somehow didn’t send my recommendation letters. Since I applied SEAS, I had to have one rec from “my math teacher,” so I got my current one to do it. However, now that they have to fill it out again, I could switch teachers. In short, does the SEAS math teacher rec have to be from the CURRENT math teacher? (I want to switch to my freshman and junior year math teacher who knows me way better).

wow guys… i’m so jealous haha…
i’m sitting at a

should i be expecting a likely??
i’m from canada…:frowning: god gets me everytime…

kelloggss, I don’t see why you shouldn’t get a likely…not to say that you will, but your stats are similar to those who have gotten likelies already…

Where did you guys report your AP Scores? additional info?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it was in additional info.
Do you know the answer to my question?

hobbitfoot, I don’t think it matters much at this point…You already got a likely. I would go with what you were going to go with in the first place…If they saw that you had potential to give you a likely, I doubt that one recommendation letter will change that.

Fwong, you’re ahmazing, darling. I mean, fluent in four languages?! Come on. How could they not want you?

And kelloggss, even if you don’t get a likely, I don’t think it’d be unreasonable to expect a positive response from admissions come March 31.

haha thanks everyone. makes me feel so much better haha… its really too bad that i’m from canada…

SAT I: 2240 Super Scored
Math: 750
Critical Reading: 760
Writing: 730
Math 2: 740
Physics: 780
Biology:700

UWGPA - 93.8 about
WGPA - 94.6 about (school has horrible weighting system…)
11th out of 180

AP English Language - 5
AP European History - 4
AP US History - 5

IB Diploma Candidate

I’m amazed that I got a likely letter at all! My GPA should be like 95 or up, but as a sophmore, AP Euro (88) and AP English (76 yikes! good thing got a 5 on exam) really trashed my GPA and my school has the worst weighting system ever. Even though all my classes are IB i only get like +1 on a 100 scale which is miniscule…

kelloggss dont worry about not getting a letter. Maybe your app wasnt read in time for likelies to be sent out or something random. Likelies are pretty random. You can have an excellent candidate who just doesn’t get one for unexplainable reason

^ Likelies from Columbia go out until the second week of March. Don’t sweat too much if you don’t get one (for Columbia College at least)

haha thanks… that article was really helpful. k, i always have a feeling in my stomach that i may be dissappointed come april…:(

Hey guys! congrats on your likelies!!!
are they only for SEAS?! I applied for Columbia College for gender studies but still havn’t heard anything…does it mean i’m rejected? I’m a little confused how likely letters work

^Likely letters go out for both CC and SEAS, although from what I can gather, a lot more people get them for SEAS. If you don’t get a likely letter, it doesn’t mean you’re rejected. Likely letters are essentially notification that you can expect to be accepted, but plenty of people (in fact, the majority) of people get in without them. Perhaps the admissions committee hasn’t gotten to your application yet. When did you submit it?

I submitted it Dec31st so it was a few days before Columbia’s Deadline.

Hm. While I can’t speak for the admissions committees, I’d guess that they’re reviewing or are going to review your application. I submitted mine on December 2. Maybe yours is in a later batch. I know it doesn’t lessen the stress of the wait, but don’t beat yourself up over the likely letter. They don’t send them out to everyone who was accepted. Remember, it’s only 39 days left. :)

Folks, relax. The OVERWHELMING majority of admitted students don’t receive “likely letters.” Only students on this forum even know what likely letters are.

39 days sounds so frightening ! so close yet so far

I think youre lying quite frankly. I looked at your other posts for people who claimed to have liekly letters, and it seems like you tried this to see if you could get away with it.

^Uhm, just out of curiosity, who is this addressed to? The OP? Me?

Question mark smiley = : confused: (remove space)
And what did you mean by a scan?
