hahha omg that’s so cool

EDIT: Oh man, no such things as happy or laugh, lol

So I got a likely letter from SEAS. Should I still bother sending an update letter? It was mostly that I got into USA Computing Olympiad gold division. I put down that I was in silver when I first applied.

also, to dellian101, likelies go to students applying to both SEAS and Columbia College. One of my friends applied to Columbia College and got a likely about a month ago. He was an Intel semifinalist. I think we’re the only 2 kids at our school out of about 75 (applied) who’ve gotten likelies though, and we got 11 kids in last year, so I wouldn’t sweat it if you haven’t gotten one.

I never applied to Columbia, but just want to jump in about the smiley faces…

I’m a bit late for the discussion, but I also got a likely letter. Yay! Fu for me, so see you at the engineering days!

hey bee, can u post ur stats? (satI and II scores, gpa, ecs) i just wanna get a sense of where i’m at…

Here is the list of all who got likelies. This is assuming that no one is ■■■■■■■■.

Is it just me or is this a long list? (23 people)

Holy crap, that list is HUGE!

@Handala92: 1/3 of them real? I would think that the number was larger.

But that is a rather large number. And I’m guessing that for every person who posted that they have a likely here, there are several others who didn’t post. Just how many letters does Columbia send out, anyway?

I also think its possible that its more than a third considering College Confidential tends to attract a lot of people who would be likely to receive a likely letter. Considering other schools are said to send out a few hundred likelies, 23 is believable.

though there could be a couple ■■■■■■ amongst the lot

Sure, kelloggss. SAT1: 2400 two sitting superscore; SAT2: 800 Math2, 780 Chem; GPA: 4.07/5. Main ECs: Large number of math, science, and programming clubs and contests- I won’t list them here- and coaching a middle school math team. Plus tennis and xc.

And I promise I’m not ■■■■■■■■. Pinkie promise.

Well, let’s not assume that they are automatically ■■■■■■■■ just because they don’t have that many posts. Some people are long time readers (I was) until they see a thread that they really want to post in. I was planning on doing that and only making an account to post that I got accepted or rejected, but some threads sparked my interest and I couldn’t resist. It may very well be true that all of those people got one. Congratulation to you all that did. How exciting!!

so should I bother updating or not?

does anybody have any idea whether canadians or any internationals for that matter receive likelies from any of the ivies?

lzdlars, update what? cuz if it’s something major (like Intel) then yes, if not, it’s not really going to make an impact.

ftw, most of those likelies were for SEAS… we should split who got it to CC and who got it to SEAS.

When I was compiling the list, it seemed to be about 60:40, SEAS:CC

That I got into the Gold Division for the USA Computing Olympiad from Silver. I already got a likely, should I bother?

I don’t think it will make a difference, lzdlars2000. From what I read, it sounds like likely letters are as good as acceptance letters. So if the update is already written, you might as well send it. But it isn’t necessary. Regardless of whether or not you send in an update, congratulations (both on the likely and on making Gold)! I’m in USACO Gold Division too (but I still haven’t gotten my free t-shirt yet; why is that?) and it’s significantly more challenging than the easier divisions. Good luck on the future contests.

^ Oh you got a likely letter? Then there is absolutley no need to. You’ve already been accepted to Columbia.
