It’s not like most acceptees receive likely letters.

congrats pigs at sea!!!

Yea, it’s kind of funny how so many people here are sort of “expecting” a likely letter…

^I think it’s out of anxiety more than anything. Even the slightest possibility of finding out about our acceptances early is exciting. Also…had I not known about the likely letters, I would not be expecting one. Obviously. But creepin on this forum has made me aware of this fact and has increased my stress levels :P

well i’ve learned from experience that higher the expectations, higher the disappointments.

hope for the best. expect the worst.

what’s so ironic is that columbia was a school i thought i would be rejected from

^ ^ ^

Well, in that case I’m doubly happy for you :)

So, the following have received letters:

mel2592
Vortar
pigsatsea
and myself

Congrats!

^wooo hooo =] seas too?

Yeah. I applied early November, though.

^ ru gonna go???

I’m not sure. It looks great on paper, but so does every other college… I will definitely be going on the weekend visit. Hopefully something there will help me make up my mind.

btw, how are you making a decision, or are you going solely by prestige?

is it true that the FU foundation is a higher acceptance rate than CC?

and also why is it that it is more rare for CC to send out likely letters?

i’m falling more and more in love with columbia every second

ahhhh the persuasiveness of the likely letter

[Admission Statistics | Columbia University Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/applications/stats.php)

the statement about the rareness of the cc likely has never been confirmed (i don’t know how many CC-SEAS likelies are out there. maybe you SEAS geeks are more likely to be on college confidential :). or perhaps it is true that more SEAS likelies are given.

if you look at Fu on the other hand, since they started doing likelies the admit rate is down, the yield is up, the class profile is up, and the number of women at an eng. school is second only to MIT. clearly it has made an impact.

further it could be just that the breadth of the college makes it harder to pull the trigger and say this person is a sure deal. with the specific things that are needed to be an engineer (interest in the discipline, strong math/sci background) it is easier to spot someone who is good. it is hard to say the same about someone who wants to do film studies or sociology, fields they may have never been introduced to as hs students. but these are just guesses.

How soon after you put in yr app? What were yr stats?

@tango91
I submitted my app at the last minute and got my likely letter in the email 9 days later.

Gratz and good luck to everyone!

Could you show me some things you are looking at? Or are you just going off the letter?
