omg!!! my cousin just copied someones essay online and will send it as his own!!!!!!

geez, I wonder sometimes what is the point of the essays if people can simply copy others. and I cant beleave that my cousin will have better chances than me now because the essay he copied got amazing feedback and mine just regular. it ticks me of.

hokay.....

woww that's a big risk and totally not worth it; you should convince him not to send it.

did he copy someone's essay from this website or like one of those essay help websites? Because if it were the former that would be so obnoxious because he could screw over the person he stole it from

... ur cousin is an idiot. and if u cared for him at all. u would make sure he didnt send that essay in.

I've always been worried about what would happen if someone copied an essay on this website. I am planning to probably put up my 500 word essay on here when I'm finished with it, as I really don't have much help from my parents and such, but if people can copy it, it might just not be safe.

What happens when colleges recieve a copied essay?

I don't know but I shudder to think of it

obv the person would not be admitted, but I feel bad for the person they copied it from (if applying at the same time) I would assume both would be rejected because how would you know who copied from who?

Tell your cousin not to do it. If it doesn't match the personality of the rest of his application it will totally screw him (and the applicant) over. Seriously, tell him if he gets busted he will get in NOWHERE.

Discuss with your parents; let them figure what to do. Aside from the matter of it being morally wrong, if he's stupid enough to do this, he's stupid enough to get caught. Maybe he copied a well known essay, maybe he's lying on other things in his app too that could get his admission revoked if discovered.

I would definitely write a forewarning if I posted an essay here on CC saying to which schools I'll be sending some form of it, albeit revised. I'd love to believe that no one has the stones to copy the essay and use it at the same school.

It's still morally bankrupt to copy it at all, but to be honest, I would have to say that I would much rather prefer someone sending it to a school to which I will not be applying. It would seem, relatively, like something that can be brushed off.

...So what was the essay about?

I actually was planning to put my essays up until my brother, who has never been on the site, said, "what if someone copies your essay?" I guess I never really thought of that...

u know.....all these people who critique prolly copy it right off
u kno coz no1 has the patience to critique unless.......

I have more confidence in my fellow CCers

You don't just your fellow CC'ers to worry about, you have everyone that can access Google or any other major search engine, because they too can read and possibly steal your essays. That's how we found this site in the first place.

Before you post an essay here (or anywhere), please read the "sticky thread" from Sheeprun about posting essays.

unless ur essay is amazingly unique and specific (like mine... refers to being named AFTER A BODY OF WATER and CHINESE and IMMIGRANT) and cant be changed easily, it can be copied easily.

Either PM essays to trusted readers or don't post them at all.

Wow, that's the dumbest thing i've ever heard.
