ACD = Academy. I am in the academy which changes certain courses to be acd courses. These courses are focuses on my choice of topic, for me computer repair specifically and business and IT in general. So my essays in English for ex. would than be based on computers.

Universities: MIT (please oh please!) , Caltech , Harvey Mudd, UC Berkley, Yale, Stanford, Pepperdine, Carnegie Mellon university

Okay so heres the issue. My counseler is a retard. No joke. I told her in may that i wanted to be in the academy. After i applied i was accepted. So my english, history, and science were supposed to be academy courses. than applied for mass media as an extra class (we have 6 or less a day. barely any sophmores have 6. im probably the only one with 7 lol).
My counseler hates me because i had to constantly see her because she honestly can not get anything done at all. So after taking geometry online over the summer this year, and calling her so many times so she didnt screw it I thought i was in the clear. Well than this week she calls and says there is not availability in mass media. ?!? I was accepted into mass media via petition in may! How do i not get in? I need to take a UC approved art so if i want to go to uc berkley i have a better chance. Well after photography got knocked off the list by my counseler i was forced to take theater. great...
Well I go to school today (1st day) and get my schedule. Im not in academy classes! Again *? Well i deal with it and see my counseler at lunch. Shes a royal *
* to me as soon as I walk up to her. I say I know she has a lot on her plate right now but 3 out of my 7 classes are wrong. She says I can only have 6 classes if im in the academy. ***H?!?!? She never mentioned that EVER and it doesnt say that anywhere on the academy rules. I need to take theater this year, but if i dont take the academy classes this year ill never get a chance. I am not sure what to do! Please help. Sorry for my rant against my counseler.

Here is more information if you need it THIS IS NOT A CHANCE THREAD THOUGH! PLEASE HELP THE ISSUE ABOVE!

Well, the first thing you need to do is to try and get on your counselor's good side and stop being a royal pain in the neck (sorry if this seems harsh--but in case you didn't notice, she's the one in control of your situation and you haven't done anything to make things easy for her).

First thing to do--write (do not call) her and send her a thank you card, and some chocolates or some small present. In the card, thank her for taking time out of her busy schedule to counsel you on your schedule and deal with your constant interruptions (you do know that she has no reason to even spend one more minute with you, right?--after all there are more students in your school than you, I'd bet).

Next, in about a week (not now), send an email or drop in on her and ask if you can make an appointment for a week or so later (for maybe 1/2 hour to an hour) to discuss your schedule with her for the next semester. (This shows that you value her time--and that you are aware that you are asking her to do things for you at her convenience).

When that meeting takes place, ask her to help you understand what you can do to get academy classes in your schedule for the second semester of 10th grade and in the 11th grade schedule (note I said, "ask", not "confront". Make this a very civil, calm discussion or you will have ruined everything you did with the card, chocolates, and previous request for an appointment.

At that point, if you are unclear, or if it still seems that you are unable to understand her instructions--then ask if there is a website--or a form--or something that explains the process. And then (and only then), if she says there is no chance to take academy classes in the 10th grade, ask if you can speak to the Vice Principal or some other person who you might appeal to so that you could possibly attend academy classes earlier than other students.

The problem is this--you have created a confrontational situation. And the only way to get the help you need is to diffuse this situation and get the counselor on your side--no matter whether the person is excellent or terrible. I wouldn't worry too much about not having all the classes you need this first semester--but I would worry about not being able to get them 2nd semester or in the 11th grade. So start playing politics here--you convince people by convincing them (not with harsh arguments, but with reasoned logic and appeals to their better nature (emotional side) as well).

As a last resort, get your parents involved (even for the 1/2 hour meeting if necessary). The counselor is very likely to deal fairly with them even when she knows she doesn't necessarily have to deal fairly with you (although I'm not sure she hasn't been dealing fairly with you all along).

Good luck.

P.S. If you know that others in the 10th grade are in the academy classes, get this info before the meeting. (But don't bring this fact up unless she is turning you down by claiming other 10th graders aren't in such classes.)

1) I am extreamly nice to her. As soon as i walked up to her though she was snooty with me though. I explained i understood etc. Im not a pain in the neck she just doesnt do her job, give me guidance.
2) Never she has not helped me at all. Why wpuld i send her a thankyou?
3) She will have a fit. Remeber i see her to much in her opinion.
4) I want the academy courses both semesters of 10th. Cant do it in 11th. Wont work. The 3 classes have simeltuneos work.
5) These are all full 2 semester classes. I cant split them in half.
6)Im considering having my mother go see her tommorow.

The ps 7) I dont know anyone personally that has the actual academy courses and dont forget im the only person i know that has 7 periods.

Go with the mother idea, that's what I do lol ;)

Make dad or mom throw a tantrum in front of the principal. Worked for my friend, got his "F" turned into a "C" before and other ridiculous stuff that shouldn't ever work, but does.

ok ill go with the mom idea...although shes kinda passive. Hopefully it works out.

UPDATE : Okay i went to the leader of the academy today. He said that
1) I Can switch into academy english.
2) I CANT go into academy history. He did not mention why. however, it sounds like I cant because im taking Theater.
3) Science is not an academy class for bussiness.

So now i am thing of this:

ACD English 10cp
Algebra 2cp
ACD World history
PE
Spanish 2
Biology H
Another UC approved art if Theater is causing the conflict.

Questions i have now :
1) What should i do about my counseler in the future?
2) If theater is not the conflict ( i cant get in because the class is full for example) what should i do?
3) Does the 10th grade schedule i have above (this post) look okay to the schools im applying to?

So, let's see if I've got this right now. You counselor is a jerk, yet even after going to the head of the academy you found out that you can only get into one of the three classes in the academy.

So is the head of the academy a jerk, too? After all, this person only let you in one of the three classes you wanted.

Look--being nice pays off in the long run--that's the message I was sending here. As long as you hate your counselor, don't plan on getting any help from her. You're hatred will show through.

As far as I can see, you are not much better off than the last time I wrote. You got one more academy class on your schedule than before--big deal. You still aren't getting what you need for MIT or the others.

Until you realize that you are fighting a losing battle with the insults, you won't get the results you want. I suggest you consider this--just consider it. (I'm sorry if I'm not using my own advice to persuade you here--that is, I'm sorry I'm not being nicer with the comments--but I'm just not in the mood to make the effort needed to convince you).

P.S. Having the mother and father go in and shout may work at some schools--but at other schools it will have you kicked out. At my son's school, the principal is having the local district attorney bring charges against seven kids for a senior prank that involved nothing more than painting the concrete floor of the quad with washable water-soluble paint. And none of the seven kids was allowed to graduate as a result either--meaning none are being enrolled at the colleges they were accepted to. Try that for being overly tough.

This thread should be moved.

No i can only get in 1 of 2. My freind that wentt to my high school (now a freshmen at Deleware) had her as a counseler and he told me she was never any help. Last week he bumped into her at a resturant and she asked him if he ever made it into villanova. This was the night beforew he left for college. She doesnt keep track of students and she doesnt care. He says he always went to the academey leader for help. The academy leader has also always been nice to me.

On the schedule I meant what should i change. I realize it isnt perfect at this point. My 11th and 12th are ok.

On having a fit, no i just want my mother to talk to my counseler. Im tired of the counseler having a fit on me . I have always been an extreamly polite and kind person to her and never did anything mean to upset her. She just doesnt care.

Any more answers for my latest questions ?
