aw daym.................
my friend who is very immature and does weird stuff got in while i didnt....
similar stats........ and i lose :(............
not fair..

"admissions are REALLY weird this year."

Definitely. We have a record number of college applicants for the class of '08 right? As for somebody else saying that the admissions were unfair -- yeah, it is. I got into UCSD but I know somebody with scores above the average for UCSD admits who didn't get in and I'm absolutely baffled. And I was rejected by Stanford (applied EA), when some people at my school with the same or worse stats (and writing skills..) were accepted or at the very least deferred.

Good luck to everyone. It's a tough college app season. I guess in the end, even if we don't get into the school we want, we'll end up happy wherever we go. You grow to love your college.

I'm still shocked I was rejected but after a while to think about it I'm less frustrated. I never planned on going there it was my ultimate back-up, but sincerely my condolences to those of you that were rejected and really did want to go.

For me, I've rationalized the situation and decided that they knew I would never go there...eh, I guess we'll see on the 27th and 31st :)

For those with crazy high stats (GPA,SAT), maybe the reason could be that UCSD thinks you're too good for them? You probably won't even bother going to UCSD so why would they accept you? They probably think that you'll end up at LA or Berkeley or some private school that is " better ". Why waste an acceptance on that person? Unless you're REALLY outstanding and SD WANTS you (like regents), if you seem like you could be in a better college, why would UCSD want to accept a student that would turn down the school for a better one, say Berkeley?

I'm pretty sure that's the reason why so many high scoring people are getting rejected, I know plenty of people that get rejected by their "target/safety" schools, then when their reach schools come out, they get in their dream schools. My uncle was like that. He was rejected from all the UC's, but strangely enough Berkeley (which back then was the best UC) accepted him. He laughs about it even till this day. Also, one of our valedictorians got rejected from Davis. WHAT?! We're all sure he's going to get into a top tier college though.

Yea... This year's UC Decisions are very messed up... I got rejected from UCSD...

3.82 UC GPA
7 AP's/3 Honors
SAT I: 1840/2400
ACT: 29
SAT II: Chemistry 640/US 650/Math IIC 690
AP's: Chemistry 3/Euro 3/US 4/Stat 4

9 Years of Piano
Co-Capt. for Science Olympiad Team
All Star Mathlete
Staff Writer for the School Newspaper
Model UN Debater
Did Track and Field for 3 Yrs (Half JV and Half V)
Over 150 hrs volunteering as a dispatcher for the local ambulance corps.
Did a half year stint in a medical lab.

However I am not all that disappointed because I got into Davis and for me as an Out of State student, I am actually happy. I didn't really had that much hope for anything above Davis. Either way there were people who had better stats than me who got rejected by Davis this year and based on the people here on this thread who got very good stats and getting rejected, I think the UC system this year is somehow very screwed up. Anyways, grats to all who got accepted though!

UCSD is obviously not looking at the "full picture" as many people I know and on this forum (including me) are varsity (or at least JV) atheltes for 4 years, and have many other ECs.

Sorry if that post came out angry, I'm just kind of bitter haha.

rejected too.

3.72
top 11%
31 ACT

maybe because i'm from vermont? i dunno. kinda sucky.

i know i've already posted that i got rejected and that it sucks.

but this morning i just found out that my friend, who COPIED MY HOMEWORK AND CHEATED OFF MY TESTS IN A NUMBER OF CLASSES GOT INTO UCSD.

i think im gonna go stufff my face with chocolate

Yeah I thought UCSD was a safety school for me but I got rejected.

WGPA 4.47
r600 m780 w610

I have gotten into some of my match schools like GA Tech and Rensselaer but I still thought I would get into SD for sure.

I am even from California.

Looks like there is no hope for Berkeley now.

First rejection. :(
Got accepted to UCR, UCM, UCSC, and UCD and I got cocky, loading my account screen with a grin on my face.
How stupid.
I would have gladly been denied everywhere else and accepted to UCSD. =/

I don't think that being overqualified is ground for a rejection. I think it's just the differences in the individual processes that the colleges use amplify different aspects of an application.

my friend got rejected from UCSD, he had 4.09 and 2280 on his SAT's. He had awards and some clubs but lacked community service and a sports team.

his major was chemical engineering

Decision: Rejected

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Congrats to those who got in. Now I gotta wait for Irvine, UCLA, and Berkeley.

Um. I'm just copy/pasting what some wise people said in another board:

"The whole myth about UC's rejecting you because others have accepted is just that, a myth.
I got into SD, LA, and Berkeley, as did many of my friends. They all operate independently, and could not care less about what the others do with you."

"Furthermore, there is no truth to the rumor that if UCSD accepts you, UCLA will reject you: they are independent and I personally know a lot of people at UCLA that were also accepted at UCSD and Berkeley."

And I frankly agree...

How competitive is engineering at UCSD, anyway?

Decision: Rejected

i got in with a 3.6 weighted gpa

jh0720: I have a 3.6 weighted GPA as well, but a 3.5 UC gpa ):

accepted.
After reading all these stats, it looks like they favored high gpa compared to testing scores.
In my case:
-4.27 UC weight, 3.95 Unweighted
-1840 SAT, 710math2, 650chem <-- scores were not very high
-much leadership(ASB + more)
-much volunteering (hospital + more)
-eligibility in local context

i'm curious for those who were not accepted, did you have ELC? because it was an 80-90% acceptance rate for ELC students last year
