We were just wowed by Syracuse, but OMG the $72,000 price tag! How does this school approach financial aid? My daughter is an MT applicant and I’m probably getting ahead of myself. But I’m fatalistic, and it would be just my luck if she got into the school that I have NO CLUE how we could afford.
About 47% of students receive financial aid averaging about $39,000.
Use the NPC (net price calculator) on the school’s website in order to get an estimate of your net cost.
Colleges are expensive. Since you figured that you don’t have the money to pay for
Syracuse, why did she apply to it? She will be disappointed if she gets in, but can’t go because she can’t pay for it.
With all due respect, parents are allowed to have sticker shock, and to figure out the finances once we know our choices. You might have heard that kids apply to a lot of schools for MT programs? Yes, we did that too. She applied to Syracuse because it’s a great program, Ma’am. Also, not that it’s any of your business, but our financial situation changed drastically because of my spouse’s death from cancer in October. My question was about how much Syracuse generally offers in terms of financial aid. Publisher was kind enough to respond to the question I actually asked and I appreciate that.
They are VERY good at financial aid. We did receive a package and also a Grant. It is a great school
@MTthreats so sorry for your loss. If you have had a change in your finances, please contact Syracuse’s financial aid office and provide them with an update if needed. FAFSA is based on prior-prior year so your numbers may need to be adjusted. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
I am optimistic for you that the Syracuse aid package will meet your needs. I will just add that our son is in the BFA Acting program. He is happy and thriving. We couldn’t be more thrilled with his decision to go to Cuse.
@MTthreats You are totally Allowed to have the sticker shock! When we began our search we did as much research as we could on what each institution charged, but kept getting sidelined by all of the reports of large scholarships and the average cost that most students pay. When you do that, most of the schools look very close together. Why not try out for a $60,000 school, if they say they give an average student $40,000 in aid. What we were doing wrong was considering aid to be merit scholarship. I still love that my daughter received the confidence of knowing that she had is the caliber to attend some of the schools that we ended up not being able to afford. Of course we let them know as soon as we received our financial packages. I am really sorry about your husband
When do Syracuse Decisions come out??
Some were last Friday and more will come out this Friday and next
Thanks for the kind words, folks. I am working on getting taxes done ASAP so I can submit updated financials to all schools. We will be OK in year one. Separately, D got WL notification. Does the waitlist tend to move?
Would love to know… my D was waitlisted also! Says after June 1 for notification, but we need to reply to her other schools by May 1. I agree – the cost is insane!
I didn’t see the actual notice, so that’s helpful to know, @esmithnc! I guess we have to put down a deposit where she’s admitted and then take it from there, unless the list moves quickly. Best wishes to you too.
